...and considering the fact that Rafa has continuously throughout our transfer history only dealt with players who were 100% committed to joining us/playing for us, regardless of their status?

Agreed. In the current climate there's no way 17m is going to appear on Maschers' agents' desk. Therefore there's no way we're going to get Mascherano to sign a contract until this has all blown over - which looks like being a long way off.

To be fair, mate. it probably wont be Rafa that's his long term manager if he signs.

I have no doubt that a new man will be brought in this summer should Hicks and Gillett tighten their grip on the club.

It's not just "agent talk". Masch gave an interview after christmas saying he was depserate to say but that his future was uncertain. I've warned people about this before - according to some I'm an hysteric - we are in serious danger of losing this player due to our clowns of owners.

The same people who are saying this is nonsense were saying the same when I said the yanks were going to sack rafa. Hicks subsequently confirmed this himself.

You have 'no doubt'. And I disagree. Nobody knows what the future holds, especially not 6 months down the line...considering how much has happened the past 2 weeks, calling the future with such certainty doesn't seem the right way, just my humble opinion of course

I just think that his agent is pressurizing the club to move and offer him a contract, that's why I've said that it's not as dramatic, maybe.

                    Yeah ofcourse it's opinion.

I just think that to much has happened between both parties for a good working relationship to continue.

So now it's Mascherano who controls when or not we sign him? I'm sure Rafa knows of the qualities he brings and at the end of the day, he will decide.
What's more is, and I don't want to get into the whole hoo-ha of it, but he's still our player until the summer and it's not like then - should a deal not materialise - he wouldn't be able to find a top European club within 2 months, it's not like he's some unknown player...

Looks to me like the agent is trying to scare us into resolving the deal ASAP.

Whilst i'd like very much for us to sign him on a permanent basis, there is still around 5 months to go before we have to do anything about it, why cough up now why there is still the potential for the player to get seriously injured or some such other unforseen circumstance to occur (God forbid)?
I get the sneaky feeling we will wait until just after the last day of the season and things will be resolved then. Hopefully.

If not, it will be yet another case of tragic mis-management by the clubs owners.

I agree with that, but I also wouldn't rule out that things might get back on track, .... you just never know. I'm not saying this that or the other, but at the moment EVERYTHING is uncertain and to say this that or the other just seems a bit silly, in my opinion.

I didn't say that. And of course the player has an input into whether he goes or stays. He's not an indentured servant.

Yes, but you understand where I'm coming from. Just because Mascherano made a buy me plea doesn't mean we can just go and do that. After all, he's still loaned til the summer, so technically speaking, we are not under such time pressure as it seemed to be portrayed when he did come out with the 'get me' plea.

I'm not saying this that or the other, I'm just stating that it's way too quick to go overboard with the drama when in fact there is still time and Rafa knows he wants to stay so what's the sudden rush.

As I said earlier, it's not as if he would be out of a job in the summer and there wouldn't be a host of the biggest clubs in Europe queueing up for his signature...that's what I'm trying to say.

                                Terrible news if true.

Its such a no brainer. He's currently arguably the best player in the side with Torres.

He's young and 17million is no financial risk. Even if we kept him for 5 years he'd be worth 17 million at 28.

                                Its a no brainer.

Any owner who couldn't deliver Masher is not the right owner for this club.

To let a world class player slip away so needlessly is little short of criminal.
