For the record, I have been surprised at the lack of activity around Carson, really thought Villa & City would be looking to sign him up in January but hasn't even been a suggestion towards it since the window opened

Worse still, looks like Villa are trying to get in another keeper as they have failed with a bid for a US guy I never heard of - see below from SSN ... does this mean they are not interested or that they are not prepared to pay the money for him?

        -----------------------------------------
Aston Villa have been thwarted in their attempts to sign USA goalkeeper Brad Guzan after they failed to obtain a work permit for him.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill had lined up a £2million move for the Chivas USA keeper as he looked to bolster his goalkeeping options.

Celtic had been linked with Guzan, but Villa stole in to try and lure the player to England.

However, Villa's attempts to sign Guzan have been unsuccessful as a work permit application has been rejected by the Home Office.

Guzan application was automatically rejected as he has not played enough games for America having won just five caps to date.

        ------------------------------------------
At a football club there's a holy trinity- the players the manager and the supporters, Directors dont come into it, they are only there to sign the cheques " - Bill Shankly

          Reina all the way.

And if he wasn't such a good sweeper he'd be forced into making world class save after world class save.

He does a lot of his job before the chance has even had the opportunity to happen.

Easy one to answer that for me.

If we are pretending this is real for a second.......

Reina is now the best keeper in the league. He has way overtaken cech (take the hat off you fanny, it was ages ago. ****house). And he is in the top 3 in the world. He is definitely, by a country mile, the best keeper we have had since clemence and is in danger of overtaking even him.

Carson is a ten-a-penny shot stopper with no command over his area and an inability to read the game. He has great reflexes but that is about it.

His penalty saving skills cant be questioned but as for in normal play more questions need to be asked, he's getting off way to easy.
Agreed. I'm a fan of flappy myself.

I can kind of see what the original poster is getting at. one of the goals against reading was poor as was his effort against arsenal. sometimes he doesn't produce the save that makes a difference ala cech pre injury and old red nose. his distribution is often awful too with a big punt up front going nowhere although occasionally he hits the target and its created chances.

reina is a lot better than carson but not the best in the league or europe.

Are you serious. I genuinely believe Reina has the best distribution in the premiership and maybe even the world.

watch him next time grab the ball, race to the edge of the area before hoofing it towards torres. then count how many times it reaches torres. I'd be surprised if his accuracy was more than 10%. Don't get me wrong when it works its great but I think too many people only remember the successes. I admire his eagerness but there are times he needs to slow down.

                          Lets agree to disagree

I watch him closely and believe more often than not he finds his teammates. It is only when he goes for the more adventerous balls he may get it slightly wrong but what do you expect, when none of other attackers provide any movement. Imagine him in Man Utd's team setting up a counter attack with Ronaldo and co to aim ofr.

fair enough, the villa game in particular his kicking was poor and if his team mates aren't good enough or on his wave length then why persist in giving away pocession?

anyway reina's kicking or goalkeeping ability is far from being one of our main problems at present. its the rest of **** in front of him I'm more concerned with.
