when you can afford to spend nearly 30 mil on a striker your getting the right striker,same goes for your defenders and midfielders.

when you have less than 30 mil to spend on all three together your probably not getting the right players,there fore probably spending that amount every summer.

the fact that they can spend 30 mil on one player and still have spent more than us says a lot.

We've spent more or less the same as them since the start of the PL - fact.

We CAN spend £30m, we just choose to spend it on 4 average players.

Same time or otherwise, we HAVE spent more or less the same as them in the PL era. It's a fact. And as for the 'time' issue, if we just spent the lot on ONE world class young striker at the beginning, he'd still be playing for us now. We'd have had him for all those years between signing Cisse and Crouch (less than 4 years, by the way). That's what United do. They'll have Rooney for a decade...during which time, we'll have spunked probably over £80m on numerous average strikers (and Torres).

It makes you feel better to pretend otherwise, it makes our failings seem like they're justified. So if you prefer to delude yourself, that's fine by me.

But factually speaking, we've spent about the same.

I think its easy to forget that fungus had a stroke of luck with Beckham, Nevilles, Scholes, Butt. Personally, I think Fungus is actually quite poor in buying players. Rio, Vidic, Evra, Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez, Hargreaves not exactly 'finds' were they?.

In most cases though, it doesnt take a genius to spot a world class talent.

It does take balls to spend big on them though. Ferguson has had the balls to do it.
