I disagree ... it is all about the clubs, the league, playing week in week out (should still be at 3pm).

The bigger issue here is that it seems that business interests of the "Premier League PLC" (i.e TV broadcast rights) is taking over the driving seat of the actual game itself ..... the money has been generated by the game, the success of the game, the public interest in the game. It should all about the game .. not the business of the game !

Would jump at the chance if the team were in the US. . . . that being said I agree with posters who have said that if you support LFC then it is your responsibility to get your arse to Anfield. I cannot wait until I take my two boys on our first trip to Anfield.

But I think he meant in the eyes of the business men it's all about the money - at least that's the way I read it.

It will be interesting to see what other fans think of this. I'd expect stiff opposition.

All genuine football people will be opposed to this because it ****s up the competition. Its as simple as that.

Anyone who is happy to **** up the competition for a bit of fun or more money has little regard for the game of football.

We may as well make every game a friendly if the competitions matter so little that they can be pissed about with like this.

Here in Australia we have the AFL between 16 teams played over 22 rounds. Its a great sport and highly successful but the competition is joke due to inequity of the H/A season. The A league is 8 teams played over 21 rounds, also a joke.

What you have is a perfect 38 game h/a competition and any thought to disrupt that will immediately effect the credibility of the competition. It's a ridiculous idea and I am not surprised to see an angry reaction from locals at all.

              I hate the idea

My last game was Charlton away, xmas 06 , and I don't know when I will next be back in the uk but I care more about the club and football in general than about my own personal needs.

****ing terrible idea, one more step down the road to ruin for footy

there was a comment in the offical statement that pretty much summed it up for me - i can't find the exact quote but it was the reasoning behind this idea, it was something like

"well, now the premier league has pretty much saturated the UK market,"

wtf - what kind of statement is that, so what if the premier league has "saturated" the uk market - its the ****ing english league, to be played in england - it's a sports competition thats been played in this country for decades - it shouldn't have anything to do with ****ing markets being saturated etc - football is no longer a sport, it's a ****ing business and it ****ing stinks

Eventually the bubble will burst cause fans will just get fed up with all the **** thats going on and start to turn away from the premier league and start going to watch local non league teams etc - where football is still a sport - i have mentioned before that a few of my mates play in the west cheshire league which is as a good a standard of amatuer football around, I have to say I have enjoyed watching them more than liverpool - they usually get about 100 or so people watching and this is a league where the majority of players pay subs to play

Top flight football as a sport is dying

Long live grass roots football where it is still a sport

                        Paul and DS

I just don't understand how people can see this as anything but disaster for football.

I have been in Japan for nearly 3 years and will probably live the rest of my life here so I will have very limited possibilities to watch us (and any other teams) in the flesh for the rest of my life , so ****in what !!!

My ego and my needs are not important

Integrity, fairness (39 games !!) and loyalty are far more important.

How long until some rich owner decides that his franchise should move from Blackburn/Bolton/Wigan etc to London/Surrey/ Dallas/Dubai etc ????

Some fans are obviously happy to sell their football souls

This is a stupid idea, it wrecks the whole idea of the fairness of the league system play everyone once at home and once away, adding an extra game drawn randomly counting towards the league title/relegation etc is a dangerous path to take, imagine the effects if the title was decide because the Mancs drew Derby and Arsenal drew Spurs.

Also I notice that the five top sides will be kept seperate and that there will be 5 venues so everyone will see a 'big' team play, but will they get huge crowds for games such as Bolton - Middlesbourgh, chances are they'd only turn up as that would be part of the build up to a game with one of the bigger sides
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Well I'd obviously go to the a game if it was played here, but I'd rather not have that option tbh.
Keep the games in England where they belong!

Maybe they could only sell tickets as a package thereby ensuring a sell out for every game. Fans can then just attend the games they want to see and the EPL will still get the only thing that is important to them $$$$$$$$
