He lives in America and is probably not aware of the full anti Hicks feeling.
Even if is was aware he may not share your views,he`s entitled to disagree with you and i doubt he he needed a quick dollar. Not everyone thinks Hicks is a cnut, the press in Texas is probably very pro Hicks.

But it doesn`t matter if Jimmy Mellie or myself are in the minority,he`s still entitled to make his own decisions. If he lived in Liverpool taday he`d possibly agree with you.I think geography has alot to do with his opinion. He`s just not hearing as much Anti Hicks abuse as we are on this side of the pond.Maybe his trip to Anfield opened his eyes.

P.S.It`s possible that Hicks had no alterior motive and is capable of a nice gesture to an ex-player as the owner. It`s something the yanks are very good at.

                My thoughts...

I think that there definitely are talks going on between DIC, Hicks and Gillet Jr, although Jr isn't talking very much these days.

                The stumbling blocks are:

                1) The price/valuation of the club,
                2) The price/valuation of the shares that Hicks and Gillet Jr own,
                3) The debts with the banks
                4) The price of building the new stadium (lesser issue)

but possibly, and I think somebody may have touched on this earlier...

                Champions League Qualification

This has the potential to affect all of the 4 things I raised as stumbling blocks as it puts one party in a greater bargaining position than the other.

DIC if we don't qualify and Hicks/Gillet if we do.

I'm not sure about the rules if we win Big Ears again and finish 5th in the EPL now after what happened in Istanbul and Platini going ape **** but seems to me like both parties are hedging their bets at the moment...

Hicks hoping we keep going deeper into the CL and win it (his price goes up) and the Arabs hoping we don't and that we don't qualify for next year either (their price goes down)

I don't see any conclusion on this until end of April minimum, possibly in the summer...

                    Gillett may thwart fans bid

                    By Ian Herbert
                    Thursday, 28 February 2008

The Liverpool fans' group established to turn the club into a Barcelona-style establishment run by supporters has received firm pledges totalling £47.5m with expressions of interest which could double that.

The initial take-up of the Share Liverpool FC group provides a 10th of £500m needed to see its vision of the club realised and a credible base for the organisation, which has engaged Cobbetts solicitors and has Phil Thompson and John Aldridge among voluble supporters. But the organisation, which has established a steering group with finance, law and marketing expertise, may quickly find itself over taken by events. There may be no major developments for several weeks in Dubai International Capital's (DIC) pursuit of the club but further evidence that George Gillett has made his decision has been provided by one of Tom Hicks' more improbable friends – the former Brighton manager and Liverpool player Jimmy Melia.

Melia, who has got to know Hicks while coaching youth sides in Texas for the past 18 years, accompanied the Amercian's son on his ill-fated trip to Anfield on Saturday and said yesterday: "Gillett looks like he's going to sell his share but I know Tom Hicks is going to hang in there and make it work."

The pre-emption rights which Gillett and Hicks would have signed up to when buying Liverpool mean that Gillett must discuss any sale with Hicks, and could be forced to sell to him. But if Hicks does not buy, as seems almost certain, Gillett is free to sell to DIC. The club's manager Rafael Benitez, meanwhile, said he will decide on the future of defender Sami Hyypia – outstanding in the continued absence through injury of Daniel Agger – later in the season.

"I am really pleased with him," Benitez said. "The question now is to see how he progresses, but he knows my thoughts. He doesn't have to prove anything."
"I watched the Champions League quarter-finals and the way they crushed Arsenal. Only the greatest and the best can play such a match.
                    The Future is Red!

is this what it has come to,some no mark has an opinion and it gets air time.
****ing hell, you use the name Shankly (take it you've heard of him then?) but then have a go at one of his ex-plyers. Jimmy Melia may never have been one of the all time greats, but he did play an important part in Shanks' revival of LFC, and anyone with an ounce of knowledge of the clubs history will know the name. By that token he is hardly a no mark, in fact he probably has more claim to an opinion on matters LFC than you! I didnt realise that having a different opinion than the masses was a crime here. :whatever:

I'm sure this is all very well written and interesting, but **** me it's longwinded. Could have done it in two sentences:

Liverpool supporters wake every morning hoping today will bring some firm news on the future direction of the ownership of the club. Well there still isn't any so do some ****ing work.

Not a chance that he will do that.

Taken from elsewhere when someone expressed a similar opinion to yours

Lets assume GG sells his stake in the club. This would have to result in some restructuring since both GG and TH own the club through the Cayman investment vehicle. The borrowings recently secured were approx £250m on holding company and £100m on the club. The club would be valued at say £350m enterprise value less debt of £100m to give an equity value for 100% of the club of £250m. In am not even sure the debt relating to the stadium will have been drawn down as yet so the equity value may be more. Therefore GG would be entitled to at least 50% or £125m. He then somehow would repay the borrowings attributable to his share of the acquisition debt (assumed to be £250m) currently held by the holding company. The observant ones among you will have worked out that my back of the envelope example seems to leave GG with nil profit. If the club debt is less than £100m today then my example would mean GG walks away with half of every £ of debt below £100m. Therefore if none of the £60m stadium tranche has been drawn down then he will have made £30m cash on the deal. Good business I would say.

TH would be left with 50% of the shares and his remaining share of the acquisition debt - say £125m. This debt is secured on his shares but generally has nothing to do with DIC.

I imagine that DIC would seek to refinance the remaining club's debt to ensure the entire stadium construction finance is in place for a suitable period - say three to five years. This debt would I am afraid still rest with the club as would any working capital facilities (i.e. player acquisition funds) unless DIC inject new cash on acquiring GG's 50%. Should they decide to inject additional equity into the club then TH's shareholding would be diluted - however this would not happen without TH's agreement.

I really would not worry about Parry and Moores. Parry is an employee (NB: he owns no shares) and will do as he is told. Moores (NB: he definitley owns no shares) has an honorary position and seriously [oops] off the sheikh last time round. I suspect he will be exiting stage left very soon.
Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
