    oh ..wait..

Tom Hicks says he is prepared to block any attempt by co-owner George Gillett to offload his stake in Liverpool.
Reports suggest Gillett may be ready to sell his shares in the club.

But Hicks told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram newspaper: "Not only am I not going to sell, my partner cannot sell without my approval.

"So I kind of have the ability to determine the outcome of what is going to happen, and I am right in the middle of that."
"I have no idols. I admire work, dedication and competence."

I cant believe that Hicks can stop Gillette from selling his share in the club. Sure G may have to offer it to Hicks first but whether he can blcok a sale is debatable. For example if G had to sell/liquidate assets to pay back bank loans he wouldnt let Hicks stand in his way surely. Hicks has opened his big mouth again without his PR agency knowledge

Yup, quite a few of the papers are going with a spin on those quotes in the morning, I posted the Times' "Liverpool hit by internal combustion as owners’ rift deepens" in the news section, and its on the previous page of this thread too, but its basically just what you put there with fluff.

Both the Times and especially the Independent have said that the only way Hicks can stop Gillett selling to DIC is to buy the shares himself.

The only control Hicks has is the fact that he has first option. If he can't match DIC's bid then there is nothing stopping Gillett selling up. Hicks is just a fat cunt of a liar trying to make out he's in charge.

I'm yet to be convinced that Hicks is the antichrist. For me, the important things are that we have stability going into the close season, that Rafa is backed in the summer with a good transfer kitty, and that building starts on the new stadium this year so that there are no further delays. I couldn't care a toss whether that is Hicks or DIC who are in sole charge, just so long as one of them are.

All I want is an end to this saga and the stability that will lead to a decent challenge next season. As I've posted before - ALL football club owners are only in it for their own ends and not for those of the fans. The best you can hope for is that they understand the game and that your interests co-incide with theirs. Rafa seems happier these days, I take his attitude as the barometer of how things are going at board level, and he seems pretty content. He would be the first to send signals if anything at board level was hindering his work, so I'll wait for those signs before I get suicidal over Hicks staying.

                I agree entirely.

Unfortunately this is either complete heresy these days or, to quote a ****, "the stench of appeasement". You will find that whatever happens sensible and well reasoned analysis will only get you the insults of the mob. There are very few now who want us to settle everything out of the media glare and actually get on to playing football again. Too many are having fun getting self righteous about things that they know nothing about. I'm looking forward to the next transfer window when we can get wound up in our traditional vitriolic tradition rather than spending our time witchhunting.

Tom Hicks is on the verge of a bid to take full control of Liverpool.

The Texan tycoon yesterday revealed he has power of veto to prevent co-owner George Gillett from selling his 50 per cent stake to Arab investment company DIC.

And Hicks hinted strongly that in blocking such a move, he will instead try to persuade his fellow American - who wants out of Anfield - to sell up to his company Hicks Holdings.

"Not only am I not going to sell, my partner cannot sell without my approval," said the billionaire. "So, I kind of have the ability to determine the outcome of what is going to happen, and I am right in the middle of that."

Hicks' revelations will dismay a large section of the Liverpool support, who don't trust the Americans and their financial strategies.

There is also anger the US owners tried to persuade Jurgen Klinsmann to take over as manager.

But Hicks hopes to make it clear that it was Gillett that made the running over Klinsmann, and in recent months he has put his full support behind Spanish boss Rafa Benitez.

Hicks may struggle to find the £150million that it will cost to buy out Gillett, but he has been in talks with powerful American businessmen recently, including close contacts of President George W. Bush.

It is clear his relationship with Gillett has broken down and now Hicks wants his partner out of the way.

He has already set aside £50million to give to the manager to spend on new players, and plans to begin work this summer on a state-of-the-art 72,000-capacity stadium.

It seems he is edging closer to making a bid for full control, after revealing he has been working on the situation for the past few weeks.

"For a lot of reasons I can't discuss, I haven't been able to fix it yet. But I am preparing to be in a position to fix it," he told the influential Texas newspaper the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

He's a lying fat *******. So ****ing stubborn that he wants to pay the fans back for the protests and slating his son.

This is the worst period i can remember as a Liverpool fan. I saw comfort in the fact that we were half owned by Gillett prior, because he doesn't seem so bad. 100% owned by Hicks i think i'll slit my wrists

Both own liverpool 50-50 yeah, so if GG wants to get out and dilute his share ofcourse by selling it, if Hicks cant afford it and is in no way to arrange that sort of sum to pay of GG then what options does GG have since hicks has said that he wont let GG sell his portion of share and he needs hicks approval.

This all looks like a mess and everyday we hear contradictory reports dont know what to believe.
                      The answer is:

If Hicks cannot match the bid for the shares within an agreed period, he is powerless to stop Gillet from selling..............end of story

100% owned by him will be diabolical not least because there is no basis for trust between him and the supporters. He is a lying cu*t who hasnt thought twice about putting the club in hock. Cu*t. I wish he would **** off and he can take his republican loving KKK supporting, war mongering gimp friends with him.

This is crap really. I don't understand. So he is going to get someone to loan him the money to buy out Gillett? The thing is he can't get a silent partner as it's only Hicks who has first option. If he can't buy then Gillett can go to whoever he wants, not Hicks' mates as they have no option to buy first.

This situation is terrible to be honest. By all accounts it was Gillett that didn't want to put the whole debt on the club when the re-financing was sorted. If one of the Yanks had to stay I would want it to be Gillett, not Hicks. Now we're actually facing a situation where Hicks could own the job lot. Stubborn f*cker
