No! It's a considered opinion, based on the information that I previously provided which either a) you didn't read or b) didn't understand.

Remedial classes are available if needed.

Which would seem to indicate that former Presidents can indeed be shareholders of businesses which pretty much rules anyone in. Not that it seems particularly likely.

R5 has that Hicks has ended talk with DIC and blocked any takeover of Gillette's shares. He is said to be looking at other opportunities

                    DIC remain hopefull

Preparations for Liverpool’s biggest match of the season, against Inter Milan at the San Siro this evening, were overshadowed last night by the latest twists in the Anfield takeover soap opera, with Tom Hicks angrily terminating his negotiations with Dubai International Capital (DIC).

Rafael Benítez, the Liverpool manager, said that he and his players would think only about booking their place in the Champions League quarter-finals, with his team 2-0 up from the first leg. But the latest development in the takeover saga has shocked the club’s hierarchy, with Hicks, the co-chairman, deciding to veto the decision by George Gillett Jr, his co-owner, to sell the vast majority of his 50 per cent stake in the club to DIC, the private-equity investment arm of the Dubai Government.

DIC remains hopeful of buying Gillett’s share and ousting Hicks in the long term, but the tone of Hicks’s statement suggested there would be no more amicable discussions after negotiations in Dubai broke down.

“I have decided to terminate any further discussions with DIC regarding their possible purchase of a minority stake in Kop Holdings and in turn the club,” Hicks said. “DIC made it clear that if they invested in the club, they would want it managed by committee.

“Based on my 13 years of successful experience as an owner of professional sports teams — and based in particular on the situation at Liverpool over the past year — it is clear that such a committee approach would not be in the best interests of Kop, the club or the club’s loyal and passionate supporters. Accordingly, I have decided to exercise my right . . . to veto any sale of any portion of Kop and the club to DIC.

“I and my colleagues and representatives will continue to explore a number of other options with regard to the ownership of Kop and the club.”

DIC has privately questioned the legitimacy of the Texan’s power of veto, but sources close to Hicks said last night that “the veto is watertight. It was in the shareholder agreement and, as far as Tom is concerned, that is the end of the matter with DIC.”

Benítez, whose employment prospects at Anfield remain unclear, said that the news would not distract his players from the task in hand against Inter, but his preparations have been disrupted by a disagreement with Xabi Alonso, the midfield player, who stayed in Merseyside yesterday to be with his girlfriend, Nagore, who is about to give birth to their first child.

Alonso had hoped to fly out this morning if the baby was born in time, but Benítez said no, putting further pressure on their working relationship, which has become strained over the past two months.

Well hard to tell what to make of it, except that DIC are still discussing the loophole firstly reported about the veto opportunities... Guess it all comes down to the legal interpretation!

lol - perhaps he is so alienated to the club now that he needs his insider info from elsewhere...

I've re-read them and they still appear to hysterical misogynistic gibberish....sorry I meant BS.

In the American vernacular, "theory" often means "imperfect fact"--part of a hierarchy of confidence running downhill from fact to theory to hypothesis to guess.

                          I see where you're headed.

SpeedyG, I normally love to read your brash opinions. You normally make points based on common sense. But I have a question for you.

Do you believe that the way Amanda Staveley has conducted herself in the press has affected the deal what so ever?

I've got to be honest with you, I don't. There are two options available with regard to Tom Hicks:

                            A) He wants to stay in charge no matter what.
                            B) He wants to make a massive profit by selling.

Neither option will be affected in the slightest by Stavely pouting off in the press. Now I could say that maybe Stavley is acting under the instructions of DIC, or that some of what she has said has been twisted by Hicks. Maybe even the small point that another party released the letter.

But it still makes **** all difference. Fact of the matter is that if DIC stumped up the cash for option B), Hicks would sell. Or if option A) applies, if DIC stumped up the cash and agreed to all of Hicks conditions, he would let Gillet sell.

Even Hicks says the problem with the DIC bid is the request for a committee, not the way DIC or those representing them have conducted themselves in the press.

Business is all about Power and Money. That is all, not bickering.
                            Forwards.......

                                FFS!

great news to wake up too

I do not understand how Hicks can have so much power of Gillette. I dont understand why he has the control on who Gilette sells too etc.

Surely nobody is that stupid to sign a deal accepting those terms.

Im thinking Hicks is just clutching at straws here...or has broken off negotiations with himself and DIC for his shares...not Gillette's.

We better not have a repeat of our lackluster performances like when all the Klinsmann stuff first got aired.

Inter is a massive game, and its not over by a long shot....
