Gillett death threats
By CHRIS BASCOMBE
ANFIELD co-owner George Gillett has received death threats from Liverpool fans warning him not to sell any of his stake in the club to partner Tom Hicks.
But Gillett insists he has no intention of selling Hicks any of his shares.
An Anfield source said: "George has assured the club he's not prepared to sell Tom even half a per cent, never mind one per cent.
"While the focus has been on what Hicks and Dubai International Capital want to do, it seems people have been ignoring the man who'll really decide who he sells his stake to."
Gillett is determined to break his ties on Merseyside after just one year in charge, but recognises the catastrophic legacy if he left Hicks in control.
But there remains cautious optimism the American ownership will draw to an inevitable conclusion in the months to come.

I hate the two ****wits as much as anyone on here, and I know emotions are running high. Hell I felt like killing someone when Hicks announced he was "exercising his veto" to halt the DIC bid. But there is no excuse of death threats, even if they are empty threats. We're Liverpool fans, we dont do things like that.White liquid in a bottle = Milk

It's not surprising, unfortunately.Originally posted by Dhavlos View PostI hate the two ****wits as much as anyone on here, and I know emotions are running high. People like Anders Frisk have received death threats for a damn sight less than dragging the good name of a famous football club through the mud.
What's interesting is yet more communication from Gillett. I don't think it is a coincidence that George has loosened his tongue as Hicks has exercised his veto. And if he really is unwilling to sell his 1% to Hicks, it can only mean that, as reported, DIC would buy Gillett's 50% and sell 1% on to Hicks. It's not good because it's rude. It's good because it looks like it's good because it's rude.

It is curious that he has started talking again. It would suggest to me that nothing (in terms of a sale) will be happening imminently (perhaps ties in with Hicks' 90 day pre-emption rights?).Originally posted by Alpha View PostIt's not surprising, unfortunately.

I thought the whole notion of DIC buying 50% and selling 1% on to Hicks was to pacify Hicks and prevent him from exercising the veto? Now he has vetoed it, why should DIC offer him anything?Last edited by Dhav; 16-03-08, 12:43 PM.White liquid in a bottle = Milk

Perhaps thats why GG is talking again. The veto has a time limt and Hicks has little to no chance of coming up with the cash. Access to cash is becoming harder and harder every day and with groups like Bear Stearns and the Carlyle group going bust Hicks will be doing it hard. It will be interesting to see how long they can both hold out.Originally posted by Dhav View PostIt is curious that he has started talking again.
