I cant believe what im reading here. For those of you that are prepared to make excuses for rafa benitez by saying that he hasnt been able to get his top targets - what other manager has such luxury apart from maybe the scum and the chavs? Just because he cannot get his most wanted players does not excuse the fact that we have been extremely poor this season, with many performances lacking in any kind of cohesion, fight and passion.

Rafa is a great fella and in many ways has everything one could want from a manager apart from the ability to have his team play consistently well in the premierleague. The proof is in the results gentlemen. If DIC want to replace rafa then I personally can see their decision being justified.

It's up to DIC if they buy us if they want to keep Rafa or not. They will aim for the best to maximize their investment IMO and that means that if Rafa leaves then another top class manager will take his place and be backed to build his team.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

When Rafa took over he had Chelsea with their fantasy money, Man U with their big revenue stream and Arsenal with the squad Wenger had built up to compete with.

That makes a very big difference. If we would have a realistic chance to win the title then at least two of the other big clubs had to have a bad season.
I think alot of people don't realise how much things have changed over the last few years, under Houllier we were struggling to regularly make 4th with only 2 real strong teams, since then Chelsea have been added to that catagory, but aside from this season we have comfortably been making the top 4. We need stability to give the manager a chance, its only really when you have a settled squad and you can add one or two class players a season that you can really compete, if we give Rafa that time we will be at that stage soon. If a new man comes in it'll be another 4 or 5 year plan (unless someone is prepared to throw money at the squad, a la Chelsea)
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Absolutely true but in fairness i think the facts lean more towards my argument than otherwise.

If Rafa had been backed like Fergie or Mourinho every summer, we would never have signed the likes of Pennant, Kuyt or Bellamy.

He deserves another shot next season, only if he's given the money to get his first choice players.

If he would have got his first choices, we would have a squad of properly challenging for the Premiership title by now.

Jazzmaster: "what other manager has such luxury apart from maybe the scum and the chavs?"

who have we finished behind for the past 2 seasons? that makes us best of the rest no? only beaten by managers with the luxury of being able to sign anyone they want? I.e. basically no constraints.

ok this season is going to be a step backwards but tbh, i think this whole saga since november has been a massive, massive cloud over the club. don't forget it was rafa that called these c-units out in public. that, frankly, could be the most important thing that he ever will do for this club.

reading your posts I can see your point and part of me does agree with part of what you say. dodgy selections do have their impact on the team no denying it. But its also not nearly as bad as the media make it and if he had better in reserve, the impact would be zero. However, you just cannot deny that had rafa had his first choice, we'd have a much stronger first team squad to pick from.

Right then, now we can get back back to DIC...
