If by external influences, you mean being forced to pick players you didnt want to pick, then yes, that would upset the apple cart.

I hope that Rafa or our next manager will make a big clearout this summer. Some of the players attitude the last months have been disgraceful, I have never seen anything like it during all the time I have supported Liverpool and that is a long time.

Only Reina, Torres, Agger, Masch, Skrtel and Lucas are safe IMO. I wouldn't mind whatever other player from the first team that we sell off, including Gerrard and Carragher.

I want to have players that's good enough, have the right attitude and work their socks off week in week out for the team. If they then have some off games, then that's ok as long as they give everything out there.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I was more disappointed with the crowd yesterday than I was with the team.

Humiliated by the Barnsley supporters with "Where's your famous atmosphere?" and a better rendition of YNWA.

I had to sit through the whole game listening to the group sitting behind me slagging the players off from the first minute. Even having a go at Kuyt when he scored FFS.

They were almost glad when we lost so they could say "I told you so"

I'm seriously considering not going to any games at Anfield again because of the ****ty supporters - not the team.

but we dominated! you shouldnt need torres to beat barnsley! rafa picked a team capable of winning in the prem let alone fooking barnsley but they didnt.

what the problem is, is that the whole boardroom stuff is OBVIOUSLY having an effect on the players, what else could it be.

rafa could of told the players to play how they liked and they should still of won imo.

It's not just about yesterday mate. Take a look at the league table.

It could be that Rafa is simply not cut out to make a proper title challenge in england. That's not such a radical suggestion.

DJS your not comparing like with like mate

if rafa had been in charge of scum or chavs the last 4 years are you seriously saying he wouldnt of won the league then?

if you have unparalelled suport from a rock steady board you will win the league, but your asking rafa not only to compete with the big spenders but to do so on a platform of mistrust and backstabing with a little pinch of uncertainty thrown in the mix.

IF dic take over and bring some much needed stability and rafa (like fergie/etc) is properly backed then i guarentee that we will mount a proper title challenge next year.

Mate, the reasons we wont win the league under rafa, are obsessive and detrimental rotation, constantly changing formations and systems, playing players in uncomfortable positions and rigid decision making structures (eg, no subs at HT ever, and always make a sub on 70 mins, as a rule)...

Doing those same things at United or Chelsea would've stopped him winning the league too. The board issues are irrespective. They dont help, i grant you, but the board situation isnt the reason we're 19 points off Arsenal. It's merely another excuse.

There are things outside of rafa's control and that's fine. But he's messing up with the things he DOES control and making it harder for himself. You speak of much needed stability, and i agree. The same applies to the team itself, and team selection, systems and style.

but it was that same obsessive rotation policy that got us to 2 cl finals.
it was the same policy that got us finishing 3rd for the last 2 seasons.

and all of this was achieved with a modest barcoders/spurs style backing.
12 games in this season we'd won 8 and drawn 4 (lucky chavs pen and pompey away inc) and we were righ up there, with obsessive rotation in full swing then BANG.

the yanks are outed as liars and its made public of there real intent and the fact theve done a levy and tapped up another manager and our season is left in tatters,

                    coincidence?

But getting to CL finals is vastly different to challenging for the league. The CL requires a good performance/win maybe twice a month. The league requires it, more or less, 30 weeks out of 38 (approx numbers used here, but you get the point).

Finishing 3rd isnt challenging for the title mate.

And after 12 games, it was all good. The league goes on for 38 though, that's the problem.

I can't find reference to Hicks approaching Klinsman before January. Hicks said they spoke to him in November.

We lost to Besiktas in October, when we also jammed a win against the BS, messed up against spurs at anfield, and lost to marsaille at anfield. I don't think your timeline stands up.

but how is rafa supposed to get us no.19 when he doesnt get year on year manc/chav like backing?

our best line up is still mostly made up of budget/too old now, buys. when you look at scum theve got fergie 1st choicers all the way through so how are we suppost to compete?

I totally agree,as i`ve said in this thread.
DJS will still manage to stick to the line that if the players play badly it`s Rafa`s fault and not the players.
I saw Rafa giong nuts on the sideline against Barnsley and the players didn`t react.

I'm not saying he should win the title. Staying in the race beyond Dec-January would be a decent start. And finishing 4th without a struggle would be decent too. Not to mention being able to beat lower division sides with the comfort that we should be beating them by.
