But, his performances are slowly becoming worse and worse.

Could it be he's feeling complacent? Other than Reina, he is probably our most selected player, even more so than Gerrard.

With Agger out injured, and Skrtel only new, he doesn't really have any competition for his spot.

An aspect of his game that really gives me the ****s is his hoofing. People constantly whinge about Hyypia's distribution, but at least he tries to pick out a player, Carra will just send it upfield, high in the air with not apparent target.

I know he's a ****ing quality defender on his day, but IMO he really needs to pick up his performances, they have been very lackluster of late.
100% agree with this unfortunately. His form has dipped massively this season. If we had all our defenders fit I would consider dropping him for certain games now, particularly when we play the "lesser" teams and have most of the possession.

The main reason is that he gives away possession far too much, which when the team is already lacking in confidence, has a massive negative effect on the way we play football. He is missing Agger badly. When Agger plays with him he lets him carry the ball out of defence. When Agger has not been there Carragher has to use the ball more, not his strength.

He has also conceeded a few needless penalties this season. When he failed to pressurise Brian Howard and let him get his shot away I could hardly believe what I was seeing. I think things at the club are starting to get to him.

Thats true of a lot of players though - carra, riise, finnan, kuyt - all been way below standard this season. I actually dont think carra has been that bad.

        Almost like what?

        No.

Almost like he's playing in a different back line every week and in so doing, trying to cover his team mates deficiencies. Would be a simpler explanation.

Its unfair to single out a single player when so many are way off the pace. If you think about it, Torres, Mascherano Hypia and Pepe are the only ones that are consistently performing this season. Only 4 players.

Which, if anything, is a damning indictment of the manager to have a large squad with so many underperforming players.

              I agree

I reckon Carraghers fighting fires all across the backline to the detriment of his own form, hes constantly having to cover for Hyypia's lack of pace so it means hes in no mans land

Its further compounded by Finnan being less reliable than usual

In essence hes covering for 3 positions as well as trying to do his own

For me there was no coincidence that Carraghers best game recently came whilst playing alongside Skittles

Anyone who believes Carragher is deliberately underperforming to get rid of Rafa knows nothing about football or Carragher for that matter

It was a joke. Carra is probably the last one that would do something like this
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

You can add Arbeloa to that list IMO

We have been lucky enough that several of his **** tackles and hand ball penalty incidents have not led to more penalties against us.

I agree with that too, although I wish I didn't have to. I hope it is the fact he is still struggling after the rib injury because his usually fantastically timed last minute tackles are no so fantastically timed anymore.
Nah. He won't win the Prem. You can quote me on that. - Sarb24
