if we had 11 tommy smiths playing in yesterays game we'd have had 4 men sent off if todays laws were interpreted on how he tackled. Smith was a good defender but a lot of his rep is based on sything men down from the behind and getting away with nothing more than a cross word from the ref. If that part had been taken from his game he would have been v v ordinary

Tommy is entitled to his opinion and to bring up the Gayle incident now and judge it in today's context is naive. It wasn't right and he probably cringes at the thought of it now.
we would mate,he was a defender,****ing useless up front.

Some legends have more class than others with how they handle this drop in form.

Agree with everything Tommy says there, he's just coming out and saying what we're all thinking.

Smith was a key player in the club's history and a wonderful servant down through the years - if anyone's entitled to their opinion on LFC, he is. We need more people to call the situation as it is, Benitez needs to know this is not good enough.

This statement wasn't meant to be taken quite so literally. He wasn't much of a goalie either as it happens. As for the racist bit. He grew up in Liverpool at the time he did. Couple that with his limited education and intelligence and what do you get? You form your ideology on what is said and what goes on around you when you're young. My Dad's a similar age and grew up in Liverpool in similar circumstances and guess what...................

No were not. Tommy Smiths comments are never positve. He is always having a pop at someone or something connected with the club.

Why is he 'sticking the boot in' ?

I dont get it dhavlos mate, either you keep quiet about rafa's failings, or you're sticking the boot in?

If rafa got the tactics wrong and/or didnt get the players motivated enough, then i'm afraid it's to do with him.

I don't think he did get the tactics wrong to be honest. Didn't get the players motivated enough?? What? They need to be motivated to play in an FA Cup match do they?? Bollocks.

****s sake, get someone in to kiss their arses before every game as well.

No it doesn't mate and hopefully his/my Dad's kind of attitude towards certain individuals will be less prevalent in the time ahead.

I take it you didn't see him play much then?

Smithy is a legend - far bigger legend than any of the prima donna overpaid wasters we have in our squad now and dare I say it- A bigger legend than Benitez can ever dream to be.

I applaud his latest pontifications wholeheartedly.
