His article after we lost to barnsley in the FA cup was way over the top. we dominated that game for long periods and had lots of chances to score. We didnt get the killer goal they pinched a last minute winner and all of a sudden Itandje is the worst goalkeeper anfield has ever seen, and one of the worst players ever.

We all get upset when we lose especially in that way but he has to be impartial. The NOTW is a breeding ground of sensationalism and unfortunately it seems to have gotten to him.

I might be wrong - someone else might be 'sexying up' his articles for print.
I think his editor will have put huge pressure on him from day one to stir it up a bit as far as LFC are concerned. They aquired his services because he had some credibility on Merseyside and they knew that **** stirring from him in the national press would cause wide spread panic on a greater scale than someone else. It was all intentional in my book and is just one example of how our gutter press works.

Bascombe may have put his job before the club and I have lost all respect for him but at the end of the day he's doing a job and he's not killing cuddly animals. That said I still call him a ****** whenever I read any of his garbage these days.

Some people may disagree but ive always felt that o'neill was a bit of a long ball man and have never seen the big hype with him. Not saying that he is a crap manager or anything. All his teams seem to be made up of brutes and are effective well organised outfits that are strong on set pieces! He is good at organising teams and sorting them defensively but he just ain't my cup of tea!

Totally agree. I’d be mortified if he ever got the job with us.

He often likes to play four big 6ft+ centre backs along his backline, always a big lump up front (Sutton, Hartson, Carew), very direct, in-yer-face football and set-piece specialists.

There’s no doubting his infectious enthusiasm or motivational skills. I just don’t want his sort.

We could however do with a coach who values set pieces. How many times have we seen a good freekick of corner decide a tight game. We have a lot of suitable players but never seem to have any good ideas when we have a good opportunity.

Couldn't have said it better mate.

Bascombe and Maddock both have editors who can ultimately make them write a piece that takes a particular direction. Even if they don't they can change it before it goes to print.

Bascombe isn't a particularly outstanding journo who never would have got the job if he was working for the Birmingham Mercury or whatever. People shouldn't get so worked up about what appears in the sunday rags.

Why does anyone on here read the NOTW. Its the Sunday Scum ffs.

If ever proof of this were needed then surely it was there for all to see in Beasleys lies last week.

It never did Shankly any harm with Keegan feeding off Toshack. Set pieces are huge part of the modern game and because a manager recognises this, it does not make him long ball specialist; indeed Rafa recognised the need for a 'Target Man' type player. Look at the difference Adebayor (sp) makes to Arsenal and Drogba to Chelsea. Inter tonight, will be lining up with two 'big' men.

I don't want Rafa to go, but if the axe did fall, O'Neill would be my number one choice. His track record in bringing the best out of players is phenomenal; imagine what he could do with our squad. Villa had more players in the last England squad, more than they probably had since they won the European cup.

IF Rafa were to go (think he should get another season myself), pick one from O'Neil. Sven and Jose for me.

but to be fair most of his teams don't make much of an attempt to play football, its more about stifling the opposition and bombarding the box with crosses and outmuscling teams. Adebayor is a different kind of footballer to carew and the like. In my opinion its not the way to win chamionships playing that way!

according to graeme hunter on irish radio this morning, mourinho is the man in the frame to take over IF benitez goes in the summer. he really wanted the job before chelsea came on the scene as he views it - in his own egotistical fashion - as the tailormade job for him: big club. down on their luck in need of something special.
