I take it back. having been working with my associates it seems we were having some technical problems and we're paying out on NO deflection for SG's goal.

I still want to believe Rafa can deliver everything for us and I still think he can. Games like tonight reaffirm this belief. A few years ago we wern't in the CL as regulars like we are now, let alone routinely beating the "cream" of Europe. Rafa has turned us into the club no other Eurpoean club wants to play thats for sure.

Of course he has to do this in the league too. But surely he warrants another season to alter his tactics/style etc. Surely he has earnt another season where he can have a right go at the league and hopefully getting all the 1st choice targets he needs. He knows the European game like the back of his hand, surely if given patience and time, he can fully develop his skills and experiences in the league and deliver - after all, he's managed in Europe for years and years, yet he's only done 3 full seasons so far in English football.

I don't want to go back to the wilderness years of being ****e in Europe, had enough of them under Souness and Evans. Given more time I truly think Rafa can bring it all to us. We can have a manager who is feared and revered in Europe, yet he could also make us title challengers and winners in the league. Something the Mancs, even after all these years under Demento, don't have (great in the league, suspect in Europe). Perhaps we're all too quick to write our manager off.

Honorable mention to Mascher - fantastic tonight, love his defensive attributes.......his coming out of nowhere to rob Viera when they were on the counter is a trademark of his. But I also love the way he very quickly turns defence into attack with a quick forward ball to get the momentum moving up the pitch - if the ball is on he doesn't mess around........he obviously understands that those seconds in turning defence into a fast counter are vital.

          Kuyt's goal = massive deflection

Rollercoaster stuff again this season. That was class. I think all Liverpool fans across the globe deserve this night.

Torres won that match for us, getting Matterazzi sent off. Am I correct in saying it was his third foul on Nando? Anyway, balls to the ref. A lot of those shouts first half were never penos but Viera's was. Linesman bottled it.

My MOTM was non other than Sami Hyppia. What a comeback in a season we thought he would only play a bit part. He's playing better than Carra at the moment. Way more composed. Thought Babel had a great game, especially first half. Their keeper was excellent to be honest.

Does this mean Barnsley are better than Inter ;-)

Rafa Benitez refuses to get carried away by victory

              Feb 19 2008

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez and captain Steven Gerrard insist no one at Anfield will get carried away with tonight’s stunning victory over 10-man Inter Milan.

The Reds lifted some of the gloom at Anfield and eased the pressure on Benitez as they won the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie 2-0, with late goals from Dirk Kuyt and Gerrard.

Inter were second best throughout and were forced on to the defensive after the first-half sending-off of former Everton defender Marco Materazzi.

Benitez, who came under heavy fire after Saturday’s shock FA Cup loss to Barnsley, told ITV Sport: “It is a great win. But we need to play another game, so we must be careful.

“We have confidence - but we know Inter are a good team.”

Benitez felt his players had done exactly what was required, even though they had to wait until the 85th and 90th minutes to break the Italian resistance.

The Spaniard added: “We had confidence and passion. The team were doing the right things, passing the ball and trying to win the second ball.

“We had confidence and two goals in the last minutes is always very positive.”

It had been suggested Benitez needed a good result to remain in his job but he played down talk of being under pressure.

He said: “The players are playing for the club - we are a fantastic club.”

Gerrard stressed the win was a big one for everyone at Liverpool, not just Benitez.

The skipper told ITV Sport: “It was a big night but it means nothing unless we finish the job off.

“We are not getting carried away. It was a good performance and we are happy but it is half-time.

“For everyone connected with the club, it is big. It is not fair to single people out for praise.”

Gerrard felt Materazzi deserved to be sent off.

He added: “I wasn’t surprised at all. It was two bookable offences, he deserved to go.

“But when it happened, they got a lot behind the ball. They played for 0-0 and we had to be patient.”

The sides will meet again in the second leg at the San Siro in three weeks' time.

Inter lead Serie A by 11 points, and tonight’s defeat was their first since September.

Dutchman Kuyt, who has now scored two in his last two games, added: “We worked really hard and kept patient.

“It is a big win, but we have another game to go. It is really the only silverware we can get - so we have got to keep going.”

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I wonder how the major rags will cover the win 'Magnificent Liverpool' or 'Lucky Liverpool Leave it Til Late' ?
"I watched the Champions League quarter-finals and the way they crushed Arsenal. Only the greatest and the best can play such a match.

Oh it'll be the latter, with the focus on their red card, but **** it. Who cares. Let 'em write their ****e. I won't be reading it.

I'm not so sure. ITV just called it a magnificent win or something like that.
