I bumped into him on the Albert Dock in December and his body language and general demeanor were so negative it has bothered me ever since. I didn't want an autograph, to chat, or anything like that, I just shook his hand and told him I thought he was a great player. He didn't crack a smile, mumbled thanks and moved on as quickly as possible. There wasn't anyone else around, no one else had recognized him, and I thought I was polite enough. Based on this exchange I got the feeling he is a goner
The writing is on the wall for Xabi, he'll never be first choice over Masher and Gerrard and has dropped behind lucas in the pecking order. He has enough ability to be first choice in alot of other teams and should leave to maximize his potential. Otherwise he'll just get the odd game here. Good player but he's too slow and weak to hold down the center of the park in a 4 man midfield in this league
Are players not allowed to be in a bad mood/have the odd ****ty day?

we need to also have 2 more dynamic fullbacks for that formation, maybe insua will make the step up but arbeloa is solid rather than dynamic and finnan isn't getting any younger. As much as i struggle with the idea i'd put gerrard at the right of the 3 and in that central place have a litmanen type player.

i still think alonso has a lot more to offer
I'd just tell Gerrard to play where the hell he feels like and give him a free role. That way he can dominate the centre of the park and get involved in the battle when we are being pressured, but he can also get forward and in the box without worrying about getting back.
Problem is, with this fomation it only really works if you have decent attacking full backs and TOP CLASS wingers.
As someone has mentioned, Insua is looking to be that type of full back for the left, from what I've seen of Arbeloa he can do the job on the right and I believe Babel is getting their to play on the LW.
That just leaves the RW. World class RW are at a premium. But whoever it is it would need to be one who is good on the dribble, and one who would score a decent amount of goals. Wo that would be is anyones guess. But without that RW that formation is a non starter.
Strange how quickly fans forget how good Alonso is.
Bad patch, couple of injuries and he suddenly is dross.
Fickle sensationalist bollocks.
He is exactly that at present. He needs to hurry up back from his injuries, because if he doesn't he'll not get past Lucas, nevermind Mascher.
And if he can't get in our first team, he wont get in Spains. And I would imagine that if that beame the case he would be off without a shadow of a doubt in the summer.
But then as most think Rafa is leaving, you can guarantee Xabi will definitely be gone.
Potentially great formation, it would never happen BUT two top class fullbacks, A Babel fulfilling his immense potential as the left forward, Gerrard accepting his role as loose/Right forward, with an exceptional central playmaker would be
In my opinion, there are more players who could play the central attacking role than ones that could perform in the right forward role....
