I dunno if you have listened to the Peter Crouch podcast, but it was clearly a monumental part in Crouch’s career. Definitely hastened his exit. And I agree was Rafa over thinking that final.

He’s such a good bloke though, that he even manages to be pretty philosophical about that.

I was hugely upset at the time. Rafa had started to lose it by then.

I thought Crouch deserved to start that game on merit, and it was clear during the game while we were totally inept up front, like only Rafa could not see.

In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

When he went and signed Torres and Mascherano the next year, alarm bells were going with me. The ****er really milked that jammy Champions League with Houllier's team.

I think we dominated that game in a way that few could have foreseen. As ever Rafa needed to be more proactive with his subs. In retrospect Crouchie should have started.
