I was on a flight to Singapore with work a few years ago and the TV entertainment included a documentary on schalke. Was really good.... About how they were a. Conveyor belt of talent at the time. Draxler was class for them back then and the talk was at the time about how Max Meyer would be same level. Others that came through there at around that time were Howedes, Neuer, Sane, Ozil, Matip, Kolasinac. They also bought Rakitic. It was their "dream team" and I think a lot of them left on free transfers..........crazy to see how they fell away as a club. Also, a club like Schalke is a perfect argument for salary caps in football. I'm not saying it would be the right thing to do, but it would result in a scenario where clubs would go through purple patches and keep some of their players more easily

Aye, would make sense & level the playing field but Bayern have a monopoly that allows them to cherry-pick the best players at other clubs. It's insane that Bayern, a club that's been around only 50 years has been allowed to do that by the DFR & the rest of the Bundesliga!...Bit like what we are seeing at City/Chelsea in the PLOriginally posted by frank the tank View PostI was on a flight to Singapore with work a few years ago and the TV entertainment included a documentary on schalke. I think they were a small club until the 60s / 70s. (probably until Beckenbauer). So the comparison with PSG, city and Chelsea is apt
I might be wrong but I thought that the Bundesliga itself is only around since the 60s I think. Before that it was regional leagues and a national cup in Germany.
