Looks to me that he is definitely not on Rafa's side.
Not really, if you take his words at face value:

We've got the stadium, the fans, the manager and the players to compete for the Premier League.

and at the same time he says there that we have the players to compete for the PL.

      He contradicts himself.

Either the manager hasn't done a good enough job in the league or the players isn't good enough to compete for the PL. It's as simple as that.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I think he's just saying that everything is more or less in place, but the performances don't match the resources. There could be a multitude of reasons for that, but he isn't picking one out. Overall though, I'd say his words are aimed at the players, which is what you'd expect from a captain.

When we all thought he was going to Chelsea I was gutted but since then the way he's been has just pissed me off. He's a sulky arsed prima donna. He should do more talking on the pitch as captain and less talking off it. If he went so be it. As I said, noone is irreplaceable.
I never liked Roy Keane,he used to bitch and moan all the time let alone all the ranting and raving at the refs. Also by writing what he did in his book, is a horrible human being.

But my god could he play.

Same with Ronaldhino,Eto'o,Cantona to name a few.Footballing genius's that you have to accept are only able to lead by example.

Your right, when things aren't going right,Gerrard doesn't hide his dissapointment.

I'm not sure if that is such a bad thing though.

I asked this before,If it was Gerrard of Ac Milan, would you have hoped we could sign a player of that calibre?

badly timed statement by stevie in my opinion, what with all the off the pitch **** that has pretty much recked the season our club captain decides to whinge like a smacked kid.

he's entitled to his views but how exactly is this statement in anyway going to help our season?
unbelievable. can this season get any worse.

I agree with Stevie. Winning the CL won't wash away the horror of our EPL "challenge" this year, nor our consistent failure in the EPL. We used to be Champions of Europe because we were Champions of England. It felt better that way. I'll be delighted if we win the C L - but Stevie's point is true nevertheless. Unless we listen to him and take the EPL as seriously as him, nothing will change. Some people just seem to activate a "shut up traitor" reflex when somebody associated with the club makes critical comments. It's a juvenile response.

It's nothing to do with thinking he's a traitor. he just needs to learn when to shut up(now) and when to open his mouth(on the pitch).

Chelsea are off the pace. They won't win the title, but if they win the CL will the season be a disappointment. I don't think so. Same could be said if Arsenal slip up.

It's about what he says, not when he says it. I'd be more pissed off he came out now and said "this is a great team and we'll show that by winning the CL this season...next season I'm sure we'll win the PL..." Some on here would lap up that sort of crap, but don't like hearing the truth - ever. Shame.

If he hadn't of been so dire over december/january we would of still been in with a shot.

                            Im sick of him TBH
It sounds like he is positioning himself for a move or at least keeping his options open.

I think the problem is more that we have unrealistic expectations as Liverpool fans, much down to our history.

Imo, we will never win the league before the financial playing field is even.

Everyone knows the truth though. We all know the season has been **** and noone is saying it would make it perfect if we won the CL. HOWEVER, it would still be great if we did. He's kept his gob shut for ages now and not said **** all to back Rafa but yet comes out with this. It's all just negative **** all the time. If he has something to say to the players as captain, say it to them in person. I really don't rate him as a captain.
