I know it makes sod all difference, and success is managed on players brought through. But after two Youth cup wins out of three and now a possible Reserve title, it seems that Rafas plan for buying players on the cheap and bringing them through is getting ever closer to some decent results.

I'm sure I don't need to tell people this, but it is fairly obvious on looking through the history of Youth and Reserve levels that a good group of youngsters tend to come through ater early success at Youth level.

If you look at the recent history of United it was a similar scenario. Giggs, Scholes, Beckham etc. all came through the ranks at roughly the same time. Of course there were palently of others who were lauded a the time, played one or two games and then vanished. Dont expect all of our 'stars' to make it, but if we get a similar result to united i'll be happy....christ thats hard to say!!!

I read that Rafa's approach to filling out the U18s and reserves was because he anticipated that there would be some lean years, finance wise, as money was diverted to building the stadium. In that context he's been smarter than we have imagined.

Insua, Nemeth and Plessis are all realistic first team players in the next couple of years. How much would that have saved us?>

The 'little' things, like a successful reserve team, are undoubtedly significant in the long run.

              Becasue he has bottled it

A better bet would have been for Nemeth to never score in a premier league game. To do that he woud probably need a decent run of games in the cups in order to get a chance in the league.

I think Nemeth will amke it myself, but you never can tell - as the "where are they now" thread shows.
