      The thing that pisses me off about Andy Gray is not his pro-Everton bias but how, as the leading 'expert' summariser on the leading football channel, he sets the agenda. Even that would be OK if he knew what he was talking about but plenty of times he doesn't.

      He has never managed a club and to my knowledge he has never taken a coaching course yet he sits around spouting ignorant stock phrases about zonal marking, rotation and many other things about which he seems unqualified to judge. Then others repeat them and they become the accepted wisdom when actually they are founded on, at best, outdated concepts of of how teams are best managed and coached and, at worst, entirely inaccurate and/or partial selection of statistics to suit a prejudice based on ignorance.

      Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

          Oh yeah, and I hate him for saying things like "hugely powerful" and that forced chuckle, both of which make me want to punch him.

            Exactly what my point was earlier on.

            Andy Gray seems to be one of these cynics to understanding newer or 'foreign' tactics towards football. He will always stick to what he was learned in the past and its just plain ridiculous. Football is a progressive sport with newer ideas and different approaches at all times. I would love to see what he could do with a football team. I heard he didn't get along with Big Ron when he was coaching at Villa and Big Ron sacked him (Just a rumour, someone on here might know about the situation better)

              Gareth Southgate, Stuart Pearce and Coleman didnt have coaching coarses did they? I know there not the best managers but they went into it wit the same/similar knowlege to what gray would of had. And im sure he had plenty of experience of it as a player.

                That's no argument.

                Lots of players would have similar experience to those three but that doesn't mean they know what they're talking about.

                      And you have to rmember that TV is also about 'entertainment' and ratings aswell, some of the things andy gray says in matches are quite funny i think and some of his commentary is memorable. Panithinikos for example 'you beauutttttttyyyyyyyyyyy what a hit son', 'take a bow son' or 'Game overrrrrrrrrrrghhh' spring to mind.

                                That's fair comment (although those three examples were really annoying for me but that's a matter of taste). So long as we're all clear that his position as the leading football summariser in the UK is not based on his superior knowledge of football.
