Question is, if an injury fit Henry was available this summer for loan/or transfer from Barcelona - would you get him?

henry has always been very respectfull of our traditions and has always applauded our support for lfc. maybe his barren run in la liga could mean he is hungry for another crack in the english pl and what better a place to be at the moment.
for the right price in retrospect he could be a great additionps3 fanclub member#1

Not talking about our current strikers,Rafa will sign another great young striker if given the backing, something both Hicks and DIC seem willing to do(Whichever is the owner next yr)Originally posted by DJS View Post
What about the 'never has been and never will be' that currently wears our #18 shirt?

To be fair it is clearly not a no brainer for the following reasons:
His attitude in Spain has been questioned and at his age and with his injury record that could be a problem in terms of getting him to perform on the pitch.
His last season with Arsenal was not top quality and he appeared to stiffle those around him which is a problem,.
His injury record means that he might not play at all or recover long periods of easing back into the team.
In general I think he would be a gamble worth taking for a reasonable price but it is far from a clear cut decision IMO. But hey I'd also keep Kuyt."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Well depends on how you rate him, and i rate him very very highly, still. So for me it's a no brainer. And as i said, he's infinitely better than Kuyt, who is the epitome of an average, 'nothing special about him' player.Originally posted by dww View PostTo be fair it is clearly not a no brainer for the following reasons:

to be fair he is only 30 and so is still in his pomp as a striker, he has had a bad time at barca but that does not mean it is the end of him.Originally posted by dww View PostTo be fair it is clearly not a no brainer for the following reasons:

he knows the prem inside out and his experience on and off the pitch could be invaluable, i think, at his youngish age he is worth the risk

I was discussing Henry from the perspective that he'd be a major improvement on what we have (kuyt).Originally posted by Johnny View PostUndoubtably, but who`s talking about Kuyt,I`m hoping we`ll sign another 23 yr old superman like torres and not some pensioner who`ll fill a hole for 1/2 seasons.
If you were presented with the option of Henry to replace Kuyt, you'd surely take it?

The age thing is an interesting one. I struggle to think of many 30+ scorers who are still at the top of their game, especially those who used pace as a weapon. I'm not entirely sure that the rigours of top level football (especially the PL) are kind to that sort of athlete which is why I have my doubts.Originally posted by pezzzer View Postto be fair he is only 30 and so is still in his pomp as a striker, he has had a bad time at barca but that does not mean it is the end of him.

Vieira (not a striker or an out and out speed merchant like Henry) left the PL for a less strenuous life in Italy as he was feeling the physical effects and picking up injuries (he is what, a year older than Henry). Along with that many of the best players in the world at the minute seem to be young players - conceivably players are simply getting better but I suspect that what is happening is that older players are fading faster now.
Like I say I would probably take him as I look at the experience of someone like Henry as a positive of itself - I have been saying for a while that I want an older player who has won the league to be bought in to our attacking positions. I just think that you would have to be cautious and be sure his head was in the right place to succeed and that his body was still capable of delivering."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."
