Cant believe people are criticising Owen after all the goals he scored for the club. OK he left under a cloud but he was some player when he was here. To be fair, yes Robbie was a better finisher but he played in a FAR more attacked minded team than Micheal did.

2 things stand out to me looking at that video.

    1) Their ability to find the far corner of the net with deadly precision
    AND
    2) Both scored a LOT of goals but neither has a league medal to show for it. Hopefully the same curse wont hit Nando.
I like to lurk, if that's ok with you

nothing that is put on this thread can come close to what Robbie did for us and the same for Owen to some extent. Robbie was the shining light in the dark days of the 90's and it was a shame he got the injury in the derby. Never the same after that. If i remember right think it was a back injury as he went up for a header.

My sisters mate went out with his cousin so i had the chance to meet Robbie a few times and he is a top bloke with no ego what so ever (unlike some who play today). GOD

Owen was a fantastic player, Robbie was better, Rushie was better still.
          Never knowingly optimistic

His opinion was that Owen always palyed to the limit of his skill, by that he meant that if you watch him, he was always stretching for the ball. He never had it really under control, and his lightning speed of foot enabled him to make up for a fairly poor first touch. I wasnt impressed with his argument at the time, but if you watch Owen play you can see what he means. A lot of the time Owen is 'controling' the ball with an outstreched straight leg, and has to make a second very quick dash to get away from a defender and make the chance. Now at the end of the day we dont really care about the technicalities of stuff like that if wre winning matches, but I think it's catching up with Owen as he loses ithe cutting edge of his speed. It may also account a little for th type of injuries he got/gets.
On a slightly different note, the season that Rushie got 40 odd goals for us was ridiculous.
Not sure exactly how many he ended up with, but they seemd to go in off any pary of his body, it was like he just had to be there and crossed would hit him and fly in. he even scored one with his arse!!!!!
If you count his pen vs AS Roma in the EC final shoot out. 50

Watching Soccer AM this morning they had a little video showing the viewers Torres and saying he is the new Kop hero, the video started with Hunt, also had Dalglish then Rush followed by Fowler and then straight to Torres. They totally missed Owen
              We come not to play.

Some people are either very ungrateful or have short memories.

Owen is an LFC legend. Fowler too. If Fowler had Owen's sense of professionalism, he could've gone on to be one of the best strikers ever. If Owen had Robbie's passion for LFC, he could've gone down in history with even more greatness than he currently has.

Both are legends and both deserve enormous respect and appreciation.

Agreed. But lets face it, both were well and truly ****ed by injuries. Started out with so much promise and then fell away. I'm not sure when Rush left LFC, but he was probably at a good age.

Modern day football really takes it out of a player. Hopefully Torres will last the course and doesn't get burntout to quickly.
                  Forwards.......

The injury point is perfectly valid, you're right. For them to have scored that amount of goals, even allowing for the injury impact, is a further example of how amazing they both were.

It's not about short memories or not "appreciating what Owen did for us" (whilst we made him a multi millionaire).
Owen never hit 30 goals in a season for us so his position on this thread is unwarranted

We make every player a multi millionaire, that's an incredibly inane point.

I'm sure you werent that impressed with Owen's contribution in the 2001 cup final either...

i think it is about short memories when people are discounting owens achievments with us.

whether he scored 30 goals a season for us or not.
