The problem is that the friendlies isn't even friendlies anymore. You don't even try to test out new formations or look if the players can play together. They just take away the players from the clubs to play them without more or less any reason at all.

well don't sign international players then. It's that simple.

We can't expect to sign top class players and then expect their country not to want to pick them for games. Or do we not want Masher to play friendlies? Something Giggs did for Wales and was slaughtered for - by us.

I think the whole argument is why do we have to have meaningless friendlies at crucial periods of the season?

What's the point in these games? I think it's a moan in general that I bet most managers agree with.

However, FIFA really need to sort this out. Players should be allowed to withdraw from international squads for friendlies if it conflicts with their club commitments. Competitive games should remain protected, but for half arsed friendlies where a guy like Mascher has to fly there and back in four days is taking the piss. It'll encourage countries to go back to using friendlies as experiments and give the reserves a chance to show what they're made of.
