    Florent Sinama-Pongolle: opinions?

Anyone else think we binned this lad a bit too hastily?
I've no idea how he's done since he left but he's one of those players who I never thought had been given enough of an opportunity at the club.
He had good pace, never had a problem with his attitude as far as I'm aware, he also had good technique.
In fact, I think he had a similar profile to Babel, but cost us a lot less, I wouldn't have minded him as a backup striker/right midfielder this season.

Anyone else got an opinion on this or an explanation as to why we binned him?

Just checked, 30 odd appearances for Recreativo, 11 or 16 goals depending on which source you use

I agree, think he got a bit frustrated with Benitez (e.g coming off the bench to score against Luton in THAT game and then not making the squad) but I'd have him back as a squad player.

Will never forget the Olympiacos game.

The lad has done well in Spain and fair play to him.

Hard to judge how he would've done for us had he stayed. Not a world-beater but would've made a good 4th choice striker. Would've probably suited our 4-2-3-1 formation playing on the right (where Kuyt plays now).

          I always liked Pongo.

Lively, pacey, inventive little box of tricks and flicks. He scored some VERY important goals for LFC.

Certainly a more exciting forward player than Kuyt, Pennant etc

Always liked him. Was always a threat when he came off the bench. He may never have made it as a regular starter but he would have been a great option to have from the bench. We should have tried to keep him

certainly a talented kid, but his record with us wasnt spectacular, suppose that could be mainly due to lack of starts/sub roles. I would have liked to have kept him here, at least he had pace, control, talent and good attitude.

can't believe Rafa binned him and bought Voronin, yes i know we got a £3-4m and the Crow cost nought but still, he was a goal threat, had nice touch and looked like he had a good attitude. We sold too early.
                  We come not to play.

At the time he wasn't good enough to make the starting line up.

Pongolle wanted to play games. You see the problem. He left because he wanted regular football. If I was Rafa I'd have put a buy back clause in, or a % of the next sale.

Either way you look at it, it has worked out great for both parties. We made a profit and he is enjoying spain.

He has built himself up big time physique wise. Shades of Ronaldo, and he has improved his all round game immensely. Would be a far better option than kuyt of voronin

Flo Po was a bit weak but a great attitude and great potential. Would work well on the right of this current system.

In response to the question. Yes, I think Rafa binned him too quickly but thats football. We ended up with Voronin.

                            Massive potential.

Fair enough thats your opinion, but have you even watched him play lately? He's been brilliant. Letting him go was a mistake
