Biggest culprit of the day? Gerrard. I thought his first half “display” was nothing short of appalling, I can’t remember a game I’ve seen when someone in our shirt just didn’t try, and that’s exactly what it looked like in the first half. He’d lose the ball and stop, he’d hit a crap pass and not apologise, he’d make little effort to harry or chase, and basically looked like he wasn’t up for the fight. He improved after the red card when he moved position, but as one of my favourite players for years, I thought he was shocking and looked every bit a “spice boy” circa 1996.

Is that really good enough, is it??
Not as we're not used to it now from Gerrard, esp against the mancs. He's a ****ing bottler at times. Maybe doesn't want to hurt wee Wayne or something, i don't know. Whatever it is he could do with sorting himself out and asap.
Shut up you stupid little cunt. I have never had a go at anyone on here, but you and Caco or whoever must know **** all about football.

Gerrard is the single greatest player at Liverpool by a ****ing mile. And I couldn't give a **** if you or Caco go to every game and watch Gerrard. I don't, but what about the pros wh train every day with him, or his opponents he plays against, or the commentators and journos who watch him?

They all call him possibly the greatest midfielder in the world. The best Englishman. And far and away the greatest Liverpool player.

So you idiots can say what you like, because that man is a ****ing legend for this club, and is probably one of the only reasons why we have actually done something other than languish in obscurity these last 6 years or so.

The problem with Gerrard is that so regularly does he drag us out the mire, that when he does nothing special and is every bit as poor as his teammates, he gets slagged to high heaven.

There was one very big reason we got shredded against the Mancs. Javier Mascherano. The guy was a fool. I hope Red Hot was saying it tongue in cheek when she recommended him for captain.

And Marky, mouthing of about Keane. Where was he when Cantona dived into the croud and got himself a nine month suspension?

I'll tell you where, probably nowhere ****ing near him, just like Stevie was nowhere near Javier. Not that Stevie would have expected Mascher to act like a moron.

    End of rant.

SG is a great player, but a crap captain. None of this would have happened under captains like Souness/Hughes. Either SG needs to see what he needs to add to his armoury, or we need to get a true leader of men into the starting lineup.

So you're happy with his performance on sunday and his performances against United in recent years?

          The past is the past.

He aint doing it against the big boys and more worryingly he's not performing as a Captain should perform when it's the big matches.

I mean before Mascherano got sent off, was he really doing anything for the team? working his balls off and taking the game by the scruff of the neck??

You see the thing is with Gerrard, people make excuses for him all day long
"aw he wasn't playing in his favourite position", "aw he's burned out" blah blah blah.

The fact of the matter is he hasn't played against a big team in the league in a long, long time and hasn't look bothered either. FACT

This has got me thinking incredibly hard about steven gerrard - the way he captains, the way he plays and the way things could have turned with another captain.

The only other viable captain i see right now is jamie carragher and he is the most vocal member of the team and everyone can see a fellow onfield captain to gerrard. If carragher had seen what was happening with macsh - do you think he would have decided not to say anything simply because he isnt captain. Of course he ****ing wouldnt - he would have bollocked him - who knows maybe he did.....

Secondly - gerrard is our best player and one of the undisputed top 10 footballers in the world. He deserves the captaincy for this and his leading of the team with inspirational performance after inspirational performance. He cant shine in every game against the best opposition - these are tight games and difficult games, often won with a set piece or a defenders goal or even a **** ref decision. You expect too much in my opinion.

I agree with some of your points - he is moody and quiet character occasionally but thats the way he is. If there are criticisms then i believe he can be poor at retaining the ball, hits FAR too many misplaced through balls that are very detrimental to the flow of the team and for this reason i would say he lacks intelligence and decision making skill at times. Generally though - he is our leader and our talisman.

              Ahh I see

I knew nothing of Redknapp's extracurricular activities, so that has nothing to do with why I dislike him so much

In short I dislike him because he is a chirpy little moron who can't speak coherently even though he is paid to do so and holds one of the top jobs in televised football. Surely there are some talented people in the media being overlooked in favour of this fool. It's a joke really, but then again it is sky so I guess I shouldn't expect much

Redknapp is all sky glamour with no subtance, i just dont think he knows or researches his facts and he certainly isnt coherent and well spoken enough to get accross his points.

Sky should start again and just stick James richardson in charge. Entertaining, funny and above all knowledgeable - his guradian podcast (i think its the guardian is absolutely excellent). Cant believe he has never had one of the top jobs on BBC or Sky.

First of Marky, I'm sorry for going of on one - I was way out of line and over the top there.

As for "the past is in the past" I agree 100%. As would Steven Gerrard. He's also our second highest scorer this season, and without checking, probably at the top of the assists table. So it's not like he's had a poor season.

Against Man Utd, I agree, he was poor. But so was every other player in our team. As I said before this was more down to us being down to ten men for an hour.

For the other 30mins I thought the game was close, the only difference being Rooney was able to get away from his markers whilst Torres wasn't. Regerding Gerrard (and Torres) I felt that both were left isolated the majority of the time and had little effect on the team. You could say good play by Man Utd, poor tactics by Rafa, or below par performances from our team.

I'd say a combination. All I'd say Marky is don't be suprised if Gerrard yet again drags the team out of a whole later on in the season.

More to the point Keane would have been the one in the middle screaming at the ref with his dirty spit hitting him on the face. United were the worse at taunting refs while Keane was in charge, so i doubt he would have pulled Mascher away.
How many attacking players have actually played well in the big games? Gerrard hasnt but then when has Ronaldo played well against us with 11 men on the pitch? Those games are more for the defensive type players to shine or the keeper.

He's always the same, if you ask me, always talking about Frankie wankhard too! You'd never see Thommo or Hansen or any other ex reds on the telly insulting them the way that queer does

Fudge packer and queer. The most reasoned argument against the skills of a pundit I've ever seen.

He is a gob****e though and the only thing he has to do now to make him pretty much the most disliked former captain in our history is write a column for the rag and I wouldn't put even that past him these days.
