we were bound to get a period of play in which we had them on the back foot and we did...with 11 men on the field it would have allowed gerard and torres to go at them for the equaliser. losing masher had an effect on the game but losing him didnt lose us the game....reina's goalkeeping was more to blame than mashers sending off IMO.

We could still be playing against them this time next week and we'd still not be close to scoring a goal.

This hits the nail on the head for me, we dont seem to create anything against them which this is where my frustration is.

reina had a strange game, made 2 mistakes but pulled off 3 excellent saves which would have made things worse.

The goal was a defensive **** up. Up until that point we had done enough to contain United. I'm in no way suggesting we were a match for them. we weren't. But over 90 minutes 11 v 11 we were worth a point even being 1-0 down.

Conjecture is all we have as the game was over as a contest at the 43rd min mark.

However, prior to the sending off both sides were playing poorly imo. I only recall Rooney having the best chance of scoring in that period. Both teams had half chances so I'm not sure why you're quite convinced we were never going to score or even why United were playing so much better than us.
