Rafa Benitez is hopeful top scorer Fernando Torres will be fit to face Mersey rivals Everton on Sunday.
El Nino picked up knocks to his ankle and ribs against Manchester United on Sunday and was forced to sit out the first training session when he joined up with the Spain squad earlier this week.
However, the 27-goal forward is now back in training and could feature in his country's clash with Italy tonight.
Benitez said: "We saw that every time he went for the ball on Sunday he was put under a lot of pressure, but at this moment I think he will be fit for Sunday.
"He lost one day with Spain but he's back now and I think he will be ready for the game, and hopefully he'll then be available for us on Sunday."
Torres missed out on the last derby due to an adductor injury sustained on international duty.
