Rafa:Torres Should Be Fit For Everton Game

Rafa Benitez is hopeful top scorer Fernando Torres will be fit to face Mersey rivals Everton on Sunday.
El Nino picked up knocks to his ankle and ribs against Manchester United on Sunday and was forced to sit out the first training session when he joined up with the Spain squad earlier this week.

However, the 27-goal forward is now back in training and could feature in his country's clash with Italy tonight.

Benitez said: "We saw that every time he went for the ball on Sunday he was put under a lot of pressure, but at this moment I think he will be fit for Sunday.

"He lost one day with Spain but he's back now and I think he will be ready for the game, and hopefully he'll then be available for us on Sunday."

Torres missed out on the last derby due to an adductor injury sustained on international duty.

Lol, there's nothing wrong with Torres. A nice little ploy to keep him off international duty. Same as about 50 other top players this mid week What a stuuuuuupid time to have friendly internationals.

I think he's joined up with the Spain squad now, Rafa should take a leaf out of Fergies book, he's managed to withdraw Ronaldo.

Really? I was gonna have a bet on Spain but decided not to when I heard there was no Torres. I'll have to wait to see the starting lineups...

Materazzi just went straight through Torres, the stretcher was called but he was fine.
Heart in the mouth stuff though.

Maybe he shouldn't have mentioned this. Moyes is going to deploy similar tactics to ****ing Taggert.

Fernando Torres is a doubt for Liverpool’s key Merseyside derby with Everton at the weekend after picking up a knock in Spain’s friendly with Italy on Wednesday.

Torres came into the international encounter with a cloud hanging over him after picking up rib and ankle injuries in a bruising encounter with Manchester United on Sunday.

The fleet-footed forward shrugged off the knocks to take his place up front for Luis Aragones’ side, but limped out of the game at half-time following a clash with Marco Materazzi.

Torres’ replacement scored the only goal of the game, Valencia’s in-demand striker David Villa firing home a stunning volley into the top corner.

It is not yet known the extent of Torres’ injury, but he will be assessed by Liverpool’s medical team ahead of Sunday’s game with Everton.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

This just does my ****ing head in. Are we stone ****ing mad or what?. How could we allow him to go on international duty after last Sunday. Ferguson withdrew pretty boy and Nani for **** sake. Nani? he only came on as a sub.

I am so ****ing mad with our lot. Stupid ****ers.
"With Ron Yeats in defence, we could play Arthur Askey in goal."
