The most galling aspect of all of this is the fact that refs don't have to explain themselves. In what other profession can you make a decision and not have to justify it? Some of the better refs will go the extra mile and talk to the players, but there are those that get offended when questioned. This has to stop, and refs should have to explain their decision to the captains.

Everyone's been bleeting on about it all week, but it's time to look at how rugby manage their officials and make them accountable for their decisions.

    Down off the pedestal gentlemen.
when things go wrong, don't walk away.
    that'll only make it harder.

He should have went. One match ban and all of this would have been forgotten in a week or two.

For once i applaud the FA. This however should be the start of a systematic campaign by them and the refs to confront the constant ****e that refs have to put up with.

Man U. Chavs and Arsenal will get theres soon.
I will agree to diasagree then. I am in no way condoning his behaviour, he was a cock, but that sort of thing happens regularly in football and very rarely ever gets special treatement from the FA.

This would not have been such a big issue were it not for the media involvement, that is my opinion and im sticking to it

they're not making up the charge though - he didn't leave the pitch. when you're sent off, get the **** off the pitch and stop distracting ad unsettling your teammates with any potential hissy fits. the referee may have got it wrong but there's no point in continuing to cost your team more than the guts of 2 matches because you've lost it.

And he went looking for that second yellow, so we should not be ****in crying over this one.

Man up everyone and grow some ****in balls - you should hear yourselves whinging over this - sounds pathetic.

If he is given an additional 2 game ban - am I right in saying that we could appeal as a delaying tactic. This could mean that his two game ban wouldn't start till after the Arsenal league game.

As I said earlier once you've been told to go you should walk - irrespective of the rights or wrongs of the decision..... the hissy fit was out of order & embarrassing

He'll learn & hopefully won't do it again. Lets get it out of the way & move on

there should have been an fa directive sent to every club telling them from last weekend, the curretn lack of respect will not be tolerated and red cards will be shown for ALLL Dissent.

its exactly the same bollocks as the start of the season......new rules, few red cards and can guarantee all forgetten within a month and scum/chelsea will carry on being abusive to refs and **** all will happen!

Let's just take this and move on. No point bitching and moaning about it.

If Mascher gets sent off in future games against the Scum then I hope it's for taking Ronaldo and Rooney out of the game in one tackle.

obviously mascher SHOULD have left the pitch straight away but then again common sense SHOULD also have proceeded the whole sending off in the first place. Bennett should not have send off Javier for simply asking what was that about. Clearly Mascher was pumped up but lets all get this clear, if Bennett was doing his job properly, then Mascherano wouldnt have needed to run across and confront the ref. Lets look at the whole chain of events:

                      1. Mascher was pumped up and obviously needed to calm down for his own sake. I will be honest, he could have went in the 23rd minute for barking at the linesman that he either needed a pair of glasses or else a pair of balls.

                      2. Bennett gave torres no protection whatsoever. If maschers tackle on Scholes merited a yellow card, then surely the fouls on Torres at least merited a ticking off by the ref. So basically the ref was sending out the message that liverpool players will get booked, whereas ManU players who commit fouls will give free kicks away but that is all. Of course they did not let torres turn and run at them when they can just hack him down, give away a free kick near the centre line, and then retreat and regroup. Pathetic in my view and total impartiality by the referee.

                      3. Mascher runs 20 yards to remonstrate with the referee. At the end of the day, the ball was not in play. Liverpool were waiting for their free and it was a perfect time to make a point to the referee. People have stated that it is the captains job to talk to the ref and that stevie G should have said it but that is a load of bull****. Until the FA bring the rugbyesqe rule that only captains can talk to the ref then what is the problem? In my view, if Stevie G did it, then there is no way that he would have been booked. Also, if carra did it, then he wouldnt have either. Is it because Mascher is not english? I honestly do not know. But if Gerrard went to the ref and asked him "whats going on?" and he then got booked for it, then it is pretty possible that it would be Bennett that gets a suspension as opposed to the player. A lot of people make the point that he ran 20 yards to ask this but SO THE **** WHAT!!! If he ran 120 yards, via the dressing room, came out at the top entry point in the away fans, walked through the crowd like Hulk Hogan in his hayday, tagging all the fans on his way, did the 'can i hear my fans' **** with his hands and then ran over to the ref and asked him what was going on he should not get booked for it (although it might take a while!!!). What is the problem with running over to him. Are we saying if he called out to alonso not to talk the free kick and casually strolled over and asked the ref what was going on, that i'd be okay. This is where Jamie Redknapp made a ****wit out oif himself by highlighting the fact that he ran 20 yards. Just because you were a disgrace of an lfc captain jamie, dont hate mascher for being 100 times the leader you ever were. ******....

                      4. Bennett then bottles it and gives Mascher the second yellow. What a prick. His body language shows how much of a spineless cunt he was because he wouldnt even stand up to Mascherano when he was asking why he was sent off. Bennett the spineless cunt kept walking away like a ****in faggot that he is. If he was 100% confident on his decision, then he'd have stood his ground.... People state that refs in england dont get enough respect. Well the reason for that people is because they are so so bad at their job. Collina got respect from every player simply because he did a great job. He had unbelievalbe authority but that is because he called every decision pretty much spot on. I will be totally honest here - Torres should have got sent off in the second half but bennett actually bottled that decision as well.

                      5. Mascher at first refused to leave the pitch and for this he was wrong. But every player that gets sent off deserves to be told why he is getting sent off. If somebody was stopped by the filth and given a speeding ticket and then sent on their way without getting any explanation whatsoever, then that person has the right to ask what the **** for - particularly when the driver thinks that he was driving within the limits. Bennett didn't follow protocol.

Conclusion: Mascher was wrong to not leave the pitch straight away but this is his only mistake in the whole incident. Also, this was born out of total 100% understandable frustration out of the referees total inability to do his job properly. Mascher should get maybe a one game extension to his ban but Bennett should get a ban also. He did not control the game properly. How many times have we seen referees at the centre of match-changing incidents in this country. If we draw to everton, or drop further points while mascher is away, and do not qualify for the cl next season, then it will be partially the fault of poor officiating in the english premier league. Premier league but sub-standard referees.

I would reccomened the following changes in the english game with regard to referees:

                      1. Only captains should be allowed to speak to them - thus avoiding any confusion from now on with incidents like this.
                      2. Referees should also be mike-d up - thus bringing greater clarity to the whole process of suspentions after the incident takes place. Also, at present, the FA have onlæy the referees report when making their conclusions. The referee can review the game himself and then alter his report to suit afterwards. If we could hear the referee explain each free kick decision to the captains of the teams, then the fa could use this to form their own opinions afterwards. Also, we could assess the referees far better then - it would be known for sure if they make the right calls.

rant over, i need a ****in drink...... oh yeah.....and sack parry!!!

Mascherano WAS entirely in the wrong. He shouldn't have done what he did. It was immensely stupid and cost us bigtime. Torres had just been booked for chatting back (merited or otherwise) and Bennett was clearly cracking down. Masher was STUPID.

This charge is not trumped up. He broke a rule and is being punished. The whole incident was blown up by the current media climate. But if you looked back through the posts of this site as well as any other people were calling for action to be taken on this sort of thing.
                        Exactly.

He was a ****in idiot having already being booked to go spouting to the ref not just at the time he got his marching orders but also the 5 or 6 times in between both bookings.Stevie shouldve had a word and calmed him down and then had a few well placed words in the refs ear.He has no one to blame but himself.Yes the ref was a power hungry manc favouring **** but moaning about it to him constantly guaranteed Masher got what he deserved. Then to top it off he has to be nearly dragged from the pitch. He ****ed up our chances last week and will probably miss another 2 or 3 crucial games. Its a harsh lesson but I hope he learns it well.

Anyway i take your point, i just hope he is dealt with fairly, thats all i want now. Just heard some Championship player did the same, admitted the charge and got a fine and ONE extra match ban. Lets hope the FA treat mascher the same and not ban him longer.
