i watched souness play. he was not as dynamic as gerrard, didn't score as many goals and was surrounded by world class players, the team didn't rely on souness in the same way. but no way would i say that anywhere near souness.

this really is a non starter for discussion regarding gerrard as captain, if you took it off him he would be destroyed as a liverpool player. what needs to happen is for someone to help him become a better captain

      yes or no?
No, unfortunately. They're different types of players, but I'd rather have Souness in my team than Gerrard. Souness was just as effective in his role as Dalglish or Barnes.

I can't think of anyone better in the current squad than Gerrard to captain the side, but I hope within the next few years someone emerges who can really impose themselves properly on the team. It's all very well raising your own game and making things happen, but if someone can do that and motivate the other players then we might have a chance of winning the league.

Although we could see Mascerano was walking a fine line, I think it was harsh to say Gerrard should have done something, I seem to recall he talking to Mascherano earlier I'm assuming he was trying to calm him down but Gerrard was nowhere near Mascherano for the sending off
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

the problem with gerrard's leadership is that he sometimes seems unable to pick himself up let alone anyone else. istanbul and the other tiring examples apart, it's the average game that worries me when the team put in one of their lacklustre performances. that's when a real leader shows his true colours. putting on a sulky face doesn't help anyone.
he should've been stripped off the armband after his 2nd transfer request but that's my own opinion on that.
i think the manure game was the perfect example why he shouldn't be captain.
