I really hate them. I no longer live on the wirral so thankfully I don't have to deal with the heathens on a daily basis. I know you're still there mate so it must be painful for you.

      Police probe player abuse claims

Police are to speak to Liverpool and Everton football clubs about allegations that players were abused during the city's derby game.

Officers will probe claims that Everton captain Phil Neville was spat at and punched as he took a throw-in.

Police will also look at reports that other fans chanted comments about the daughter of Liverpool captain and England international Steven Gerrard.

Liverpool beat Everton 1-0 in the match at Anfield on Sunday.

Television cameras appeared to capture Neville being abused by several fans in the second half of the game.

Gerrard also faced an apparent torrent of abuse as he walked to take a corner in front of Everton fans in the second half.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: "Police will be speaking to the clubs involved today."

Dave Lewis, the force's football liaison officer, who travels abroad with the teams when they play in Europe, will conduct the discussions.

A spokesman for Liverpool FC was not immediately available for comment.

      Prevent contact

Everton spokesman Ian Ross said: "We felt it necessary to try to involve the safety officers and police because we cannot have a situation where supporters are having physical contact with professional footballers during the game.

"We want to make sure that doesn't happen again at the Merseyside derby or any other game."

He added that the club would never condone the singling out of individual players for vitriolic insults.

He also said that Joleon Lescott had been subjected to an afternoon-long barrage of "quite disgusting and quite audible abuse" and that Phil Neville was spat at several times and punched in the back by a supporter.

The match - traditionally one of Europe's most passionate derbies - had been billed as vital in both clubs' race for the Premiership's fourth place.

FFS, the bitters have made this a mountain out of a mole hill. I wonder if this tantrum will make them feel better about us doing the double over them?

it's a ****er - tho yesterday was sweet - as seems to be the general concensus, it is just getting worse and worse with each derby game - it won't belong before either there is a full blown riot or the game has to be played behind closed doors. They are getting more and more bitter, and granted we have our own knobheads - it won't be long before you get a crown of 20 or so everotn fans chanting murderers to the wrong set of liverpool fans and all hell breaks loose - in my experience and i mentioned this in a thread yesterday - there is two types of everton fans - everton supporters and liverpool haters

Prime example - seen a lad who i play football with, an everton supporter - a class footballer, understands the game. He was gutted they lost and his words were "liverpool were average but everton ****ing ****e - u deserved to win, are main players just didn't perform and we missed cahill - gerrad ran the show and torres is unstoppable at the moment"

Another lad who i play five a side with - a fat ****er who knows **** all about football - he's a Liverpool Hater - before i even said anything to him, i just walked in to the place we play footy "and you can **** off too - torres was a ****ing mile off side, webb was a disgrace, gerrard's a ****ing cunt, ur fans towards neville were ****, ****ing murderers blah blah blah" -

i just laughed at him - see there is the difference he was more bothered about our club than his own - he never once mentioned anything everton did, ie well i thought osman played well but was unlucky or i was pissed off with arterta cause he has been good this season but went missing - no he didn't mention Everton once - he just ranted and raved about Liverpool.

The worrying thing is there is more and more of these types and it's growing - it's almost part of a cliquey fashion type thing - i know lads who don't really follow football but they say they don't care who wins as long as liverpool don't - why?? cause they have a bitter mate or relative and it rubs off them/want to be part of their gang etc

In our local pub - it's mainly red - but on any game on tv there is usually a big crowd in there, one day everton were playing in an early kick off and liverpool later on - the everton fans(and there was a fair few of them) were louder and more bothered about the liverpool game. They weren't arsed about the result in their own game - they just wanted to scream and shout about liverpool - ****ing ******s

I have always been very open minded with football, esp when dealing with everton fans - i try not to criticise their team/players or big up our own players etc try to be fair and have a good football debate, cause at the end of the day it's all about football - thats the sport. But the attitude towards me and liverpool fans in general by 95% of the blue****e i know (and there is a lot of them) is ****ing ****e and getting worse and i find myself really starting to hate some of these ****ers - usually when ii hear a lad i know spouting off in the pub about liverpool I will just stay quiet - i know find myself wading in and giving the ****ers some **** back cause i can't stand listening to these whiney bitter ****ers who can't play the game and know **** all about football mouthing off about **** they don't understand

            Hmmm

Yeah, we should all be given detention or something

These things are a product of a tiny minority of the support. Even Alan Smith himself thanked the fans for their behaviour when he left the pitch. Maybe you have to wake up, smell the coffee and stop being taken in by the same sensationalist reporting that has sparked off this ridiculous storm-in-a-teacup. I don't think you in particular are qualified to be commenting on our behaviour.

                  Why not?

It's all true though, every club has it's shower of cunts, including Liverpool. No getting away from it.

common denominator for the most part there pal:

                      manchester united

go away, learn some lfc history, then present a balanced view and you might have a point.

There is a line which we shouldnt cross. the majority of lfc fans NEVER cross that line but theres no doubting some do.

Manchester Uniteds supporters have been the wrong side of it since the 1960's when it comes to lfc. Extreme provocotation over decades - and the hatred its bred explains - not excuses - much of your out of context list.

calling joleon lescott "the elephant man" is imo acceptable - hes a grown man earning a fat wage for his 90 mins in front of the crowd., he should be able to take it.

chants about posh spice...acceptable too, shes a public figue, flogging her image for every cent. shes fair game

but when the chants start to involve innocent children - nomatter if they are beckham's kids or steve gerard's like on sunday, those responsible are over the line. If evertons muppet spokesman cant appreciate the difference then hes at the right club

This is pointing out the obvious. I don't think anybody is arguing with that statement, but listing a host of misdemeanors you have read about and highlighting the fact that we have "dickheads" supporting us when I'd care to wager that you have barely ever set foot inside Anfield is a little bit rich.

Not really. He was sort of hinting that he thinks i've never been to Anfield before so i had to put the record straight.
