Goal or no goal, he was back to normal tonight.

Question though, how can Newcastle spend so much money and be so absymal. The worst kind of up and under team.

to be dishonest it shows what a negative player he is, always sitting far too deep - this is the only explanation for him shooting from inside his own half all the time.

Not only negative, but lazy too. Can't even be bothered to run into the oppo's half first before shooting.

Alonso's game has been off for a while. The goal was actually just another bad pass.

i think he could be bothered if he scored more often - his last goal was in january and also from inside his own half

His last two goals for the club haven't been bad at all.

That must be a first in footballing history - at any level! To score two consecutive goals (albeit months apart) from inside his own half....surely never been done before?!

2 SUCCESSIVE golas from their own half.

What amazed me about the goal tonight is the way he won the ball, looked around for the right pass, steadied himself and passed it into the net!

                    Absolutely brilliant!

At this level - surely not.

Bet some smart arse will say a keeper did it once. However for an outfield player I wouldn't have thought so.

I'll be honest, I was thinkning that Alonso could have done with a few games out. But that was a magnificent performance today, before that goal I was tied for MOM between him and Garcia (who I thought alson had an excelent game, back to his best). But for that Goal alone he gets MOM off me.

Superb. Good job the ref was in his way when he looked for the pass initially

Agree about Luis though Morphorino, best he's played in ages

Also, the one before Xabi's last two goals was the 35 yard howitzer against Luton.

So, by my rought estimates, the sum total yardage of his last three goals is around the 180 yard mark.

I suggested it in theory on Sunday, if SG was to play in the middle.

                                DOH!
