Here my friend we must disagree, I think if Kuyt played for any other team you wouldn't have such high regard for him, a case of red coloured spectacles me thinks - but I admire your loyalty

I think the manager's philosophy has a lot to do with whether Kuyt is a useful player or not. Look how Benitez has got us through to 3 CL semi finals. It hasn't been all guns blazing 4-4-2 football with advanced wingers and over lapping full backs. In fact I can't think of one team (besides Barca) that have had any success playing that way in the CL in recent years so we must realise that in a tight system designed to give the opposition no time and space but still have the stamina to hit them on the counter that Kuyt is a very useful player. In Ferguson's or Wenger's teams he'd look out of place but under Rafa's footballing philosophy he's a vital member of the squad.
"My commitment to Liverpool is 100 per cent. I would die for that Liverpool shirt. I think the club loves me and I feel the same, no matter what the situation." - Pepe Reina, Nov '09.

Agree to disagree then, as we are using cliches to communicate, I feel you have a case of the grass is always greener.

Ive given him some stick in the past when he wasnt upto scratch so credit where credit is due - hes come along and works his bollocks off as much if not more than most other players anywhere so nothing but praise for the lad recently.

however, I do agree that at best hes a strong squad player and I liked the points made about using him against certain types of teams for his workrate and not others due to his creativity (or lack thereof). If we can land a top quality right winger and (hate to us the word but) 'rotate' them a bit with Dirk then I think its a great combination.

I know the threads not about him but i dont think pennant needs to be staying. Id swap him for bentley but only because im not well up on top quality right wingers out there that we might improve with.

YNWA Dirk for your effort and all your hard work. Would have been very easy to have hidden but you havent!

                  Good post

That last bit's the key for me. The guy has the heart and soul of a Liverpool player. Simple honesty and work ethic are dying traits in modern football, but Kuyt has them in spades. At no point this season, despite a patent lack of form and confidence, has Kuyt ever hidden in a game, or just sat back and took his money regardless. His attitude has been a breath of fresh air, and there is hardly another player in the squad who couldn't learn from him in this.

The team will always need inspirational players in terms of skill, but sometimes football is about more than that, and when it is, an on-form Kuyt can genuinely excel. We undoubtedly need more quality this summer in wide attacking areas, but selling Kuyt should not, and thankfully it appears will not, be on the agenda.
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
                  Mine angry and defrauded young?

Listen you miserable little man, if it wasn't for Dirk Kuyt we would not be in the Semi's of the European Cup yet again this year

He is a very important squad player who has proved himself over the last few months

He might not be a world class player but he is well worth keeping in the squad

You obviously werent at the game on tuesday where 42,000 liverpool fans were yet again cheering him on for his man of the match performance

No one can fault his effort. There are worse players at the club who should leave before him, so he deserves another season to see if he can re discover his touch. But he needs to improve big time.

Selling him at present would be a huge loss anyhow. He is better than he has been showing of late, but theres only so long you can remain off form at Liverpool. In one way he's been lucky that our wingers have been so poor. Only Babel has shown any promise and he can play on either flank so another decent winger would have left Kuyt without a place in the team.

All I can say is that he is not good enough to be RW long term. Hopefully towards the end of this season he can keep improving and maybe next season get his goal scoring touch back.

In response to the personal issues and having to go to work Danny2006? That is so naive is beggers belief. Unless you are in a job which involves the pressure of living in the public eye your whole life, having your every movement on the pitch analysed by thousands of experts, playing for one of the biggest sides in the world and for your country I dont really think you can comment.
I know for a fact the company i work for would at least give me time off and councelling if i wanted it to deal with the grief. Dirk was renowned for being incredibly close to his father and it obviously affected him.
Every one in world football suffers these same issues at some time. Some deal with it and some don't. I appreciate that form can be affected to some degree - I'm sure we all remember Gerrard being ridiculed by Houllier around the time he had the gangland problems. I remember he was taken off when we were three down to Basle at half time. But he pulled through.

My biggest problem with Kuyt is that even on form he doesnt have the attributes required to play RW. And he isn't fast enough to play CF. Still, the Kuyt from his Feyenoord days is a useful member of the squad, so let's see how he gets on next season. But I do not want him as first choice RW next season.

Are you nuts? Have you even watched our games lately?

Over the last 2 months Dirk Kuyt has been one of our best players. There is nothing wrong with his form, he has been fantastic. He has been scoring goals, setting up plenty and defendind brilliantly. Too suggest he is off form is absurd

Take a look at our Man of the Match threads on here is you like, he is in the top 3 for most games because he has been outstanding

i touch a nerve big boy?

fyi i was at a game, as i am at most of our games and i have seen his limitations over nearly 2 seasons not one man of the match performance and know we need a better striker.

of course with his work rate and attitude he has a place in the squad in this new formation but even then we need someone better if we are to compete in the league.

I've said in other threads that he has been outstanding in some games of late. If you need a player to work hard and defend then he's your man. But that's not all I look for from the RW position. It's fine against Arsenal when all we do is defend for long periods, but not against the likes of Fulham and Bolton. In fact his lack of pace means we offer no threat on the right which invited Arsenal forward!

I do like dirk, but he is simply not good enough for RW. And when I mention form I refer to his ability as a CF. If he regained his form he could be a decent second choice striker behind Fernando.

V'sers I think you may be going a little ott While he has tried his heart out and done a good job for us lately and which he deserves a load of praise for, he is still very limited(the best word to describe him) in terms of ability on the ball. A decent option to have for rotation purposes but the fact is if we want to move up a level and challenge for the premiership I don't think he can be a regular starter
