Whats actually our first choice CB pairing 1st game next season assuming everyone is fit ?
Carra (RB), Agger & Skrtel (CB) and Aurelio/Arbeloa (LB)
Unless of course we buy some new full backs...
Thanks for the memories Rafa - YNWA!

Has to be Skrtel and Agger.

And Carragher doesn't have the game for full back - distribution and attacking sense are not part of his game.

And when I say 'play Gerrard on the left', I mean on the left

      A defensive mid for £18m?

Hang on we're all forgetting the mighty Finn, who has been superb (again) this season, he'll be in the mix still next season.

I think Carra and Agger will be the first choice if Danny is fit. They complement each other well. I can see Carra getting edged out as time (maybe even the season) goes on. I don't want to see too much rotation in the back four as I think it harms the team with less befit for the players as they are asked to do less running.

On the subject of Sami I would think next season he will be more of a squad player. But hey what a reserve he will be.

Carra is out best stopper, Agger is our best ball player. Fitness, tactics aside. They will start most games.

Can't see it. I think Rafa is going to be looking for the wide offensive players to come from the FB positions next season. I'd see Carra in the middle and a Rafinha / Alves type at FB (or WB if you insist).

cant see it myself either. just didn;t want to drop carra from the team but i do think by the end of next season skrtel and agger will be 1st choice pairing. prob carra and skrtel to start season. play agger now and again to get match fitess back. then after xmas rotate all three.

If any defender is first choice it is Agger. Then it comes down to Skrtel vs Carra. If Carra plays as he has in the last couple of games then it will be him. Skrtel is a more than adequate reserve for him, so switch the two if form indicates otherwise (which I doubt).

Anyways to a mind as educated as mine the only certainty is that Agger is the starting CH, all else revolves around him!!!!!!!!!

what chance rafa switching to a 3 man defense? agger left side, carra right side, skrtel in the centre proividing the pace and power. means we could drop the full back postion and go to wing backs (more attacking options). not my preferred option but last time isaw rafa go with a 3 man defense against newcastle 2 years ago it worked brilliantly.

Wouldn't it be a step backwards to play with three at the back ?

Plus with so many teams playing with one centre forward isn't it a tactical mistake ?

Rafa doesn't stick with a single formation. He'll use 352 when it makes sense against a specific opposition.

Carra and Agger will be first choice. Skrtel will be rotated into a fair # of games. His skills mean that he can play both the Carra and Agger role. Even though he won't be first choice he will still get a fair # of games.
