i'm not against retiring shirt numbers when it is a mark of respect (foe etc....) but to retire it in honour of a good/great player is ridiculous. the honour and pride that a player must get being offered the number 9 or number 7 shirt at lfc must be immense!! i know for a fact if i was at lfc and they offered me the number 7 or 9 i would play my bollocks off every game to show my appreciation. pretty sure fowler said the same thing when he was given the 9 shirt back in the second coming.

Our current side would look like this, for me...

        1. Reina
        2. Arbeloa
        3. Aurelio
        4. Mascherano
        5. Skrtel
        6. Carragher
        7. Kuyt
        8. Alonso
        9. Torres
        10. Gerrard
        11. Babel

Yup, I'm with you on this point, much prefer the 1-11 to return, squad numbers are just ****.

The club has so many class players theres a case to retire all number 1-11.

Hopefully this summer we'll have class players who can take the numbers 7 and 10.
            We come not to play.

The issue is that we need to get some decent players playing with that number on their back

who cares about what number is on the back of the shirt...

we need players good enough to wear the shirt full stop.

players like macher who "would die" for the cause. wear the famous red with pride not just for 100,000 a week
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

How do you decide which players are considered worthy of retiring a shirt? This is like a question of what makes someone a legend, it's a very subjective thing.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The way I see it we should retire the No 7 because whoever wears it ends up injured for ridiculous amounts of time usually for some weird abstract injury none of us have heard of.

Players need to keep the same # regardless of where / when they play so that we can sell "their" shirts.
