Thanjk you.

I can't see Abramovic doing anything dodgy like that. Updatnding citizen who always plays within the ethical and moral boundaries.
And besides, we are wasting our energy finding possible excuses before we start. We're going to blast the Russian sub out of the water.
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.
This nagging concern has been irking me for a bit now and i really hope i'm wrong, but in the light of the recent Champions League draw 'fix' scenario, nothing would surprise me where UEFA are concerned...
The link between the venue for the final and our semi final opponents is not lost on any of us. And when you're a billionaire, things are easily sorted.
So here we have it, i'm sticking my neck out and predicting that we will be eliminated by Chelsea and there'll be a dodgy decision somewhere along the way that'll seal our fate.
Call me a conspiracy theorist if you want, but it's at the point now where i EXPECT the above to happen. The final is in his home city and Abramovich would love nothing more than to take his club there to collect the trophy. It'd be the ultimate pinnacle for him and i'm sure he'd do whatever it takes to achieve it. Conveniently for him, UEFA dont strike me as being objectionable to the idea of helping a billionaire, when there might be the small matter of a 'donation' coming their way...
So there you go, that's my prediction.
I hope someone bumps this on the morning of May 1st and is laughing at how wrong i was. Fingers crossed...
Anyone know the Russian for "yep, definite penalty that..." ?
I tell you what Syd, I'm not one for conspiracies but I think you may have a point. I think your cynicism (or paranoia even) is not completely without merit.
I've mentioned this on here before (and you take it with a pinch of salt as most on here have) but a work colleague of mine has a brother who is a football journalist for one of the broadsheet newspapers. He reported the "draw fix" story in his newspaper the day after the draw. When investigating the story, he discovered that there was an agenda within UEFA to get Chelsea to the final (and to avoid a Liverpool - Man Utd final). Like I say, take that with a pinch of salt, and I've no idea how he discovered this. He seems pretty convinced the draw was fixed though. Assuming he is right and this agenda stuff is true, I have no idea how high up the agenda goes or whether it is likely to manifest itself on the pitch. We shall I guess how much truth there is in this I guess.

Uefa really are stupid then aren't they. All they had to do was draw us against manure in the SF and leave chelsea in the other half of the draw.

It sounds so incompotent that it is probably true
I know what you mean. I'm pretty sceptical about the whole thing, I too thought that if they wanted to fix the draw why wouldn't they fix it in a more beneficial way? I posted the very same thing here. Then I thought, well may be their thinking was that if they did fix it that way people would be even more suspicious and convinced that the draw was fixed. And also, if they are determined that Chelsea would get to the final and willing to do anything ot achieve that then why not put Liverpool in the same half of the draw as them?
The only thing I can tell you with certainty is that the journo who reported the draw "fix" story in The Times believes that the draw was fixed and thinks UEFA want Chelsea in the final. He may not have said that in the paper, but that's what he believes.

я предпочитаю пол с собакой на полe
Pronounced: ya pred-posh-ee-tie-oo pol so-bak-oi na pol-oo
Funnily enough it's one of two phrases I remember from a term of studying Russian.
. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

In fairness it's 50/50 as to who will get through and there's ALWAYS a contentious decision so basically you're chances of being right are 50/50 whether there is anything dodge or not

I'm not going to say this will happen but I will admit I have thought about this on more than one occassion.
