Yes i agree with you to an extent but, the scum and the ar$e DID however, Start spending a great deal of money a few yrs back on their youth players when at that time, we should have too (which Rafa is currently fixing that problem) so as a result, we are playing catch up with them no

Good post Syd but I don't think we were too cautious. We were unlucky *again* ... should have had a penalty and conceded 2 goals through offsides not given.

We were the better team on the whole if you look at both matches but again, our failure to convert chances into goals cost us. That's our main problem. We're good enough in the sense that we can easily compete with the big guns now, but to overtake them we need a little bit more.

You make your own luck. Ironically, one of the banners in our end read 'Fortune favours the brave'...maybe if we'd been brave at 1-1 and gone for it, we'd have had fortune favouring us.

Their 1st goal was extremely touch and go as far as offside is concerned, but it wasnt clear enough to say it definitely should've been disallowed. Clutching at straws. The 1st leg left us with an uphill task, but it was there for the taking at 1-1 and we didnt have the guts to go and get it. Our mentality is emphatically not one of 'go for it' and sometimes it wins us things. Other times, like last night, it cost us the tie. You cant have your cake and eat it though, either you cheer the smooth and must therefore take the rough or you simply dont cheer the smooth.

i guess it is rafa to blame but i think a lot of people would say that we have no one to grab hold of the ball and dictate the way we play from midfield. in theory xabi is the man who should dictate our play but despite the fact that he ran at least 15k last night he saw very little of the ball.

there's something wrong there somewhere alright but whether it's rafa not letting the players do the natural thing players should or whether we don't have good enough players to do what he wants us to do is tough for me to figure out.

                  Riise (4M) + Agger (6M) + Skrtel (7M) + Hyypia (3M) + Aurelio (0M) + Finnan (4M) + Arbeloa (2.5M) + Insua(2M) = 28.5M

                  Rio Ferdinand(33M)

That's the difference between us and United. Our entire defence cost less than 1 of their players.

How much more did Man City's squad cost than Everton's?

By the logic of 'they spent more than us so we cant compete', we should just pack up and go home.

No matter what subs Rafa made he`d have been critised if we lost.

All that is being said is that the more you spend the bigger your potential advantage.

Surely, even you can see that

Not sure about that. I doubt he'd have been criticised if he'd made subs that had won us the game. Two of them were forced on him, no qualms. Wouldnt have personally put Pennant on, but that's by the by.

I dont think the subs in themselves caused us the problem, so much as taking our foot off the gas after we scored becuase, with 25 mins to go, it was there for the taking.

                              Of course.

As a club, we've spent around the same as the mancs and less than Chelsea (like everyone else). We've bungled with our spending though, for the most part.
