saying that he is only a few months older than plessis is not much of an argument in my view... the guy was signed for big(gish) money, and there will be expectation on him to deliver...

however, this expectation is only in the long term. I would actually think that he deserves even more than next season regardless because he is a long term signing.... if he signed for arsenal, then wenger would be a genius and he'd be eased in over 3 seasons if necessary (like denilson!)

I don't understand why Babel gets so much credit and patience while Lucas is being criticized.

Both are talented young players who are settling in a new league and it's best to start judging them next season.

Lucas looks very very ordinary as a player where as Babel has moments when you just know he will develop in to something special eventually.

For a young un, fresh from a country he's never left, to come and settle in Liverpool and play the number of high pressure games he's had to play, the lad's done great. Time and games will make him a better player, this season is all about adapating and he's done great.

Hmm, little repetition there, damn Stella.

I think he's got enough talent to become a quality player and a regular for us. Too often this season I've found myself saying 'nope, not in this league' - he just needs to be more decisive and show a bit of tenacity. To be expected to an extent, but I suppose the point is I feel it's a case of him still needing to adapt rather than not being good enough. If I was Rafa I'd be looking for Lucas to develop a similar playing style to Fabregas.

I've liked what I've seen from him. Gets involved, has a crack at goal, tracks back for a tackle. Not all has come off, but none of it has been barn doors with banjos either.

He'll get better and better, he's playing in a restricted role, who has more to his game.

for some time i've thought he was poor, even though its his first season i see nothing special about him, we spent a lot of money (for us), it was a gamble and i'm hoping that he can deliver next season. one thing for sure if by xmas he hasn't improved there'll be more than the likes of me calling him lightweight lucas.

I don't disagree and I'm not saying he has done wrong BUT there are no moments which make you think. He has done well but I haven't seen anything that makes me think he will be more than just a solid player, which isn't necessarily a bad thing...

Lucas is a mere boy who came from brazil with hope in his heart and plaudits a thunder. Distinctly average so far, will the boy from Brazil blossom into a monster of a midfielder? I pray he does. He has technique.

I ve been critical of him but then think he is only 20 or 21, in his first season, doesnt speak the language and came to us with being the brazilian young player of the year. Im sure you dont find those sort of awards in a box of cornflakes so Im hopeful he will get better because he does have the qualities to be a better than average player. If Phil Neville hadnt produced one of the sames of the year Lucas would already be a hero.

I agree with most of you. Lucas hasn't impressed me so far, but I'm willing to give him more time.
