Patrik Berger tells Gareth Barry To join Liverpool

GARETH BARRY has been urged to join Liverpool – by his own team-mate.

Former Liverpool midfielder Patrik Berger is now at Aston Villa, who confirmed they received a player-plus-cash offer worth £10million from Liverpool for their captain last week.

And the Czech said: “If I was in Gareth’s position I would go there tomorrow. It is the opportunity of a lifetime. Liverpool don’t come after you every year.

“He is the heart of our team and it would be a massive challenge for him. He would be in the Champions League and challenging to win trophies every year.

“I’m not surprised they want to sign him. He has had a fantastic season and was our main player from the beginning to the end. He has played well for the national team as well. But I think the gap — not just between Villa and the top four but the rest of the League — is big. To break into the top four you would really have to spend a lot of money.”

According to Villa sources, owner Randy Lerner is prepared to back O’Neill financially over a new contract for Barry.

Paddy is going to have a tough time at Villa after making these comments.

    What a boot he had.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

he he, thought that myself when i heard it, maybe he wants out was my first thought. I was a little surprised O'Niel didn't blame us for their loss at Wigan, you know, with all the disruption we have caused by trying to buy Barry. Very surprised to see a team managed by mr Motivator perform so poorly, such a lack of effort when they still have a target to aim for.

Fat tony, are you any relation to Slim Jim?

              LOL, Paddy Berger = Legend!

1-0 down, 2-1 up, Michael Owen won the Cup

Can't see O'Neill liking this much

Paddy Berger was one of the few highlights in the late 90's / early 00's... remember having his name on the back of my 00/01 shirt. Shame injuries got the better of him really

When i was a cub Paddy Berger was one of my favourite Liverpool players.

                    He was brilliant.

Berger's right. For Villa, the best possible situation is trying to challenge for 5th place. At best.

For LFC, CL is the minimum requirement. If the lad has proper ambition, he'll want to join us. LFC is an enormous institution and the chance to join us is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

plus his sale will help Villa strengthen. They still have Abognlahor and Young to build the team around.
