Kewell keen to prove rafa wrong

Unwanted Liverpool winger Harry Kewell is determined to show manager Rafael Benitez that he was wrong to let him go.

The 29-year-old will be released by the Reds this summer after five years at the club which have largely been ruined by injuries and lack of form

The former Leeds star remains confident of his own abilities, however, and insists he has nothing to prove to anyone - except Benitez.

"The one person I'd like to show is my old manager," said Kewell.

"I didn't get a chance to show him a lot of what I could do and it would be great to show him what I was capable of doing.

"I didn't put my hand up to be injured. It's one of those things you have to go through in your life and it's a shame."

to which rafa replied "jog on dick head"

Kewell has also played down reports claiming he has already agreed a deal with Portsmouth.

"Apparently my agent did it [a deal with Portsmouth] while he was on the plane coming over to Australia, so I don't know how he's done that," Kewell said on a trip to his homeland.

"But I've never shied away from going abroad. I've never shied away from playing in the Premier League, I've never shied away from playing anywhere.

"My options are open and we'll see what happens."

I personally think he has alot to prove. If he can still cut it at a high level for starters. He had plenty of chances from Rafa, more than most players get, but it didn't work out because he's made of balsa wood and when he was fit we saw more of Barry than Harry.

So is Kewell basically saying a) he wasn't offered a new LFC contract; or b) he didn't accept a financially inferior contract as he has nothing to prove?

Having seen the interview, he was bemoaning that he was left out when he felt he had something to contribute.

        Nothing in it.
Nah. He won't win the Prem. You can quote me on that. - Sarb24

Not having a go at him as you cant help when you get injured, but good riddance; maybe we can now spend his wages on someone who'll actually stay fit for more than a day

Not having a go at him either, but given his frail body he should have retired from international footy to focus on staying fit for his club, not sorry to see him go I have to say.

The title of that article is a load of ****-stirring bollocks. I read his comments as meaning that he wished he had been able to repay Benitez for the faith he showed in him, not that he has to "prove him wrong".

Yeah, thats the way I say it too, more wished he had been able to to show rather than prove rafa wrong

Yawn - it's the same "you'll see the real Harry Kewell now" stuff he comes up with every couple of years and he then plays a couple of average matches and gets injured again for 8 months

I'm surprised he didn't ask for a loan move the the chavs or scum to get to play in a final!

Good riddance. It's been discussed but he should have accepted whatever offer was there if he really wanted to repay us.

What a shame. I really feel sorry for Harry Kewell. The guy had so much potential, absoloutly gutted for him. I remember being on holiday in Malia and waking up every morning to go down to the shop to buy a paper to see if he'd signed I was that excited at the prospect of his signing.

In all fairness as pointed out earlier he has been given several chances by Rafa to show his worth. The fact Rafa put him in the team for two finals after hardly touching a ball all season say's it all really. Rafa knew he was class but Kewell was just unlucky, deeply unlucky but for him to come out and say he wants to show Rafa what he's losing is wrong.

As a club we've stood behind Kewell through all the bad times. I just wish he could have shown the true player that he really is.

Good luck at your new team Harry. You could have been a genuis and a reds legend.
