Who is having a pop? Why are so many on here trying to prove how patient they are? Do any of you go to the game?

This thread is about us not being paupers like many of you would like to believe in some warped logic of backing the manager.

So if you were manager you'd go out and blast the majority, if not all, of our budget on some stepover ****e with a fancy name.

      Ribery would cost us £35m+.

      This isn't Football Manager pal.
quaresma is the great hope of so many

i can only assume they have never seen him play and just think its a nice name

You assume right, I'm sure HarverBirdman is a fan. Quaresma is another Nani.

To be fair Rashid, I made a few other posts regarding spending and big signings and net spending being irrelevant when ex-Mancs pay Fergie stupid money for his average players and spending £30m on 6 or 7 players when you need to build a squad is not the same as spending £30m on two players, but you didn't bother to reply

You only reply to posts where you know you can use your flawed argument. I'm by no means Rafa's biggest fan and he's made some mistakes, but at the end of the day, the top four aren't playing on a level playing field in terms of finances and you can't compete with teams who buy 3 or 4 £20m + players every year...well not yet anyway

And if you're comparing being 4th now to when Houllier left, then the league has moved on. Other teams are much stronger. I think the team that Rafa took over wouldn't even have finished in the top 5 today

Add to that the big money they have spent on other players that have come and gone and the talent they already have in Giggs, Scholes etc etc and its no wonder why we have been struggling to compete Rashid

Dont even get me started on Chelsea because they are a whole lot worse. The fact is Rashid, every season they keep adding big money players and you see why Rafa's job is so hard. Getting close to them is damn near impossible but thank **** we have Rafa Benitez and he gives us hope. If it wasn't for Rafa i could damn well guarantee you that we would be much worse off at the moment so stop moaning and bitching and support him

Your figures are a bit out, think saha was closer to 15mill, Nani was 19mill, think Tevez deal will be closer to 30mill (inc the 6mill loan fee) but you are spot on with your post, the type of players they have signed over the years has given them such a good base that even they can afford to spunk almost 60mil last summer on basically squad players, and can allow the likes of Nani an dAnderson a year or 2 to settle in and not have the added pressure of performing straight away (like some ssuch as Babel had with us)

spot on, Fergie hasnt had to sell to buy for a long long time, if he ever had to in the first place. Utd were very forward thinking at the start of the prem league and got all their finances in place as well as the stadium. If our board had been the same then we wouldnt be having this discussion.

Fergie had to sell to buy only the other way when he had to sell Nistellroy to buy Carrick - he wasn't allowed any more due to their finances. Since Rafa has been here Fergie has always had to sell to buy...

He was only allowed to what he did last summer as he sold a lot of players too and had just won the league. More revisionism.

Sarb - Your stuff about Fergie being lucky that his "old buys" buy his players for inflated prices is conspiracy nonsense and not worth replying to. Their boards have to approve it.

Genuine question: who did he sell?

                        your obsession is getting creepy.

I actually i think he is vastly overrated. While he can be unbelievably good, he can also be unbelievably ****e. Wouldnt touch him with a barge pole for the prices being quoted.

I also though RvN was sold after falling out with Fergie and a argument with Ronaldo?

Yes true but with that money he was able to buy Carrick - they then won the league. He sold then bought...

Yes but there is a big difference between selling and then buying and having to sell in order to buy.

To me the key was that the formation United used worked much better with Saha providing a mobile head to the formation as opposed to RvN. Who was sold as he wanted to be top dog.

It is perfectly possible there was also a financial angle but I don't see there is any evidence in the public domain to say that there was.
