Manchester City chief lined up as Parry faces the axe at Liverpool

The future of Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry looks uncertain after it emerged that his opposite number at Manchester City has been approached about his job.

Last season Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks labelled Parry a failure and called on him to resign. Now the Hicks camp have asked Alistair Mackintosh if he would consider a switch.

With Mackintosh unsettled by life under Thaksin Shinawatra at City, a move to Liverpool would be attractive. The nature of his role at City is unclear after the appointment of executive chairman Gary Cook.

If Parry is to keep his job, he must hope that Hicks loses his power struggle with co-owner George Gillett. Hicks' plan to replace Parry will go through if he can persuade his business partner and former friend to sell his stake in Liverpool.

Mackintosh will be seen as a surprise choice in some quarters but it is understood that Hicks has been impressed by the manner in which the 37-year-old chief executive raised City's profile until the sale of the club to Thaksin by former chairman John Wardle last summer.

With Liverpool due to move to a new stadium in nearby Stanley Park in the coming years, Hicks also feels that Mackintosh's experience in relocating City to the City of Manchester Stadium could be a benefit.

Well lets hope he will be better than Coco. "Waits with fingers crossed".

About time for a change now as parry has had 10 year now and done sweet FA. Peter Robinson must be gutted that coco was his successor. Sorry but the man is resposible for some of the biggest cock ups in this clubs recent history.

1 Macca going on a free
      2 Owen leaving for buttons
3 Missing out on several key players over the years due to slow dealings
4 Almost losing Stevie G twice
      5 Stadium
      6. Last but not least HICKS AND GILLET.

If the worst comes to the worst and we are stuck with H&G i would rather be stuck with them and no parry than all 3.

The poor fella is leaving City for us?

City are lining up someone from Nike to be their CEO.

I will speak to my colleagues tomorrow to see if Mackintosh is really being lined up by us. He can't be as bad as Coco?
They've won the league, bigger stars than Dallas, they've got more silver than Buckhingham Palace, no one knows quite what to expect, when the Red Machine's in full effect!

How can we appoint him if Hicks can't get rid of Parry, he tried before and failed why should it be any different this time?
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Rick Parry future uncertain as Tom Hicks courts rival (The Times)

Rick Parry’s future as Liverpool chief executive was plunged into doubt last night after it emerged that his Manchester City counterpart has been approached about taking over the role at Anfield. Tom Hicks, the Liverpool co-owner, has made no secret of his desire to remove Parry from office and has asked Alistair Mackintosh if he would consider joining the club.

So long as Parry retains the support of George Gillett Jr, Hicks’s partner, the Texan’s pursuit of Mackintosh appears doomed to failure, but that he is actively seeking a replacement could reignite the war of words at Anfield. Hicks branded Parry as "arrogant” with “an inability to manage an organisation” in April and demanded his resignation in a three-page letter, but Gillett refused to back his co-owner’s request for Parry to step down.

A move to Liverpool would appeal to Mackintosh, who is thought to have become unsettled since Thaksin Shinawatra’s takeover of City last summer. Mackintosh was thought to be keen to retain the services of Sven- Göran Eriksson, who was sacked as City manager on Monday, and his position appears to have been further undermined with the appointment of Garry Cook as the club’s executive chairman.

I can't believe we're considering employing a Chief Exec who's a year younger than me! He's only a kid, ahem - just like me.

Next time you quote me, quote the whole thing please. It was just a little joke, that's all. It makes me feel slightly old that people my age could hold such a senior position and such a high profile job. That's all. And I disagree, not all hats go with anything.

I only quoted what you said.

and I wasn't trying to take the piss.

I also didn't have to change it to make it look like something else.

                            Hats???

                            WTF you idiot...

Plenty of young people hold senior positions within organisations all over the world.
