If Rafa can't get hold of the world class players we want this year, would you prefer him to hold onto the money for next year if it meant that 4th-5th was the best we could do? Or would you prefer he upgraded the squad but we could only get to 3rd at most?

I knew you wouldOriginally posted by Sarb24 View PostI'd prefer we held onto the cash if I'm honest
And TBH I'm leaning in the same direction now, in the hope that there will in fact be world class players available next year. I'd be happy with just getting an upgrade on Kuyt and a replacement for Crouch. If we could save 10m or so by using Nemeth instead of a Crouch replacement, I'd settle for that too.The Crushing Machine MKII

It all depends on your horizion, if finishing 4th next year means we are in a position to be first in 2 years then that is a worthwhile trade-off for me.Originally posted by Shanks007 View PostWe cannot afford to have another 4-5th finish, regardless of cash.
We are seriously running out of time here.
I also don't believe Rafa would still be manager if we only finished 4-5th next season.
Downing, Milner this year? Or, Silva/Mancini/etc and Villa next year? It may cost Rafa his job, but it is the right thing to do for LFC IMO.The Crushing Machine MKII

yup, infact I was a bit disappointed with the news that Nemeth was going on loan, would rather flog Voronin and promote Nemeth.Originally posted by El Jefecito View PostI knew you would

Ok, I dont think our squad is too far away but we do need 1 or 2 top notch additions just to make that difference in the big games for us. Thing is prices will be inflated with the Euros eps if we want Villa or Arshavin. Maybe waiting and biding our time will ensure more money next year, but I do not think we can wait that long and should take the gamble now.

I genuinely think that the right types of players to alter our style could make the world of difference to us. As such I think I would rather we spent the money on trying to make those stylistic changes to the way we play than keep the money. I really don't think it is a necessity that we bring in world class players.Originally posted by El Jefecito View PostIf Rafa can't get hold of the world class players we want this year, would you prefer him to hold onto the money for next year if it meant that 4th-5th was the best we could do? However if like in the case of Barry teams try to hold us to ransom then I think that changes the gamble and I would rather we kept the money. Having said that I would actually rather we put all of our cash into getting one vital player rather than just bank it for no real reason other than the vague hope some better deal will come along next season."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Hold on to nothing, spend every $ the yanks have otherwise they'll be pocketing it not the club. Squad is lacking. Even if everyone is fit there are 3 or 4 positions that could do with general upgrade. If the player is available, forget the upgrade. We're not that far away. It all depends on how are set up & who Rafa decides to play. We dropped stupid points last season due to set up and selection.*************************

But Rafa is going to rotate anyway. Do we rotate next year to a player that is marginally better than we have. Or do we rotate the year after next to a world class player?Originally posted by billy_mac View PostHold on to nothing, spend every $ the yanks have otherwise they'll be pocketing it not the club. I'm trying not to use the R wordOriginally posted by El Jefecito View PostBut Rafa is going to rotate anyway. Do we rotate next year to a player that is marginally better than we have. Or do we rotate the year after next to a world class player?
I think it was obvious last season that when the formation and 4-5 players where changed from week to week we were a shambles and players didn't know what exactly was being asked of them. When things settled on a 4-2-3-1 with 2-3 changes then things got better. I accept a small bit of rotation (yeha I said it!).
So back to what your asking ... we improve what we can now and worry about next year next year. If its marginally better players, well thats an improvement. If its a world class player then thats a big improvement. What we can't do is nothing. Whatever little improvements we can make Chelsea have lost the league and the CL final and will make massive improvements. United will also no doubt make massive improvements with or without Ronaldo. Not sure what to make of Arsenal? And with the case of the ownership, whatever money is there now has to be spent because if oil keeps going one way and the $ the other way there will be nothing to spend next year.*************************

I would like a poll on this and I refuse to believe that anyone would take that.
So we have to wait until 2011-2012 for a prem title while the Mancs stream ahead.
Our 18 leagues and 5 Euros are starting to fade away.
No thanks.
