Got to vehemently disagree with the poster that said losing Rafa could benefit the club long term. Rafa is an integral part of future success at this club, the man's love for the club and city, and the on-field attention to detail are second to none.
If trying to win the Premiership in the current climate means taking on the same level of debt as Man Utd and Chelsea, I'd rather let them go for it until they go bust.
When you say hold on to the money - we haven't got any!!
The money we get from flogging Riise and maybe Alonso and Crouch is probably the amount needed to service our current debt interest payments.
Credit crunch will be worldwide and I suspect the level of transfer fees MUST take this into account -remember the less one pays the less interest long term
It may be irrelevant if one is also selling at an inflated price but dangerous if we are only buying
This is largely why the Americans were quick to buy Torres but then endorse Rafa's policy of buying good young talent for 3/4 years time -either they make it or we make money on them [but hopefully not letting money slip through our hands like with Pongolle]
i'd rather see an option that says spend it on fewer players. now that we've improved our full backs for practically a net spend of zero, dossena was payed for by riise and itandje sales and degen being free, i'd rather we just bought 2 player. crouch and pennant will raise apporx 15 million. add that to the 20 odd million rafa will get anyway and we have 35 million. all i want to see brought in are a striker and a wide player.
Excluding Morienties, Rafa rarely takes a hit on player sales. Even if he does take the risk on a few average players who don’t make the grade, then I’d expect at least our money back when sold on.
Barry would be an exception to this rule as no other club would contemplate paying the type of fee that’s being touted at the minute.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
