    That is all.
Great player, disastrous manager. Not sure why you can acknowledge one but completely ignore the other.

From myself ? - Yes - and also a lot of others. Forget the management part, he knew how hated that paper is/was yet he still did the interview. I don't buy it that he was still sick and not in the right frame of mind. He took the money and tried to run. So yes he lost my respect and any goodwill.

As a manager, he was poor and possibly tried to hard to change things around too quickly. In fairness he hat to contend with the foreigner rule which didn't help but some of his signings were beyond woeful.
I make no apologies, this is me

It's the same with Michael Owen, people forget all the good work he did for Liverpool. It's sadly overshadowed by him ****ing us about.

Should that mean he isn't overall remembered fondly by all Liverpool fans? I think not but that's only my opinion.

I was in a boozer that Jan Molby was in once, so a few of us started chatting to him and getting him to tell us some old stories, he trotted out the following (please bear in mind I may paraphrase a bit!!)

"We were called out to training one day and GS had us all stood round in a circle. He said we'd be practising drop-balls and him and David Speedie would be first. Speedie obviously looked a bit nervous but it riled him a bit so he wen't and stood there in the middle of us all in front of GS. As soon as the ball was dropped between then, Sounsess just ****ed him over with his studs. While Speedie was lying there, the gaffer walked off and said trainig was finished"

Whilst I agree about his abilities as a player, he's an absolute cunt of a man.

Having said that, didn't rate Molby I used to love Big Jan and ever since I was a kid used to try to mimick his long range passing - I practiced it for ages. To this day I don't think I've ever seen a better passer of the ball. Given the ****e hardmen types that Souness brought in (Stewart, Dicks etc) I'm begining to think the man seriously had a screw loose.

Re the injuries, I do remember around that time (circa 1992) we had an absolutely terrible run with injuries, which precipitated the likes of Redknapp and McManaman and other youngsters becoming regulars in the team. Not surprising to hear it was down to Souness' methods. I seem to recall Beardsley and Houghton complaining about the training under Souness long after they left.
Don't forget, he sold Beardsley to Everton for £1 Milliion also. The worst transfer away from the club in history.

With regard to the injuries, I remember at the time there were a load achilles injuries in the squad, and it was speculated then that it was due to the new training regime.

Sadly, since Souness became Liverpool manager, I have lost all respect for him. He is a grade A cock. Great player in his day, but a grade A cock. Just look at his analysis for Sky for CL games. He has absolutely no insight. Add to that his 'people skills', and it is little wonder he that he such a failure in management.
                    Oh I don't know.

I have heard similar stories from Newcastle. The guy is practically in his 50s, but he uses training to relive the glory days, playing in the 5 a sides, cutting players down. Pretty sad really, not to mention irresponsible.
                      Oh I don't know.

I have heard that story before.

Souness is legend as a player.Coming back as manager,i'm sure he meant well but he really did **** things up.With the team he inherited, with the likes of Rednapp,Macca and Fowler coming through,he should of won at least a couple more titles.Carried on the legacy.

I think going to Italy and seeing the way they were somewhat more proffesional in their fitness and looking after their bodies,he thought it was the way forward. In hindsight,he was right. But you wasn't going to change the culture of football, booze and late nights overnight which is what he tried to do.

That's funny as ****, but if true shows Souness to be a truly classless cunt. Obviously I wouldn't be laughing if it was anyone other than Speedy contesting that drop ball. If it was Jan Molby for example I'd be baying for Souness' blood

A colleague I know was friends with Jermaine Jenas' mum in Nottingham, and apparently Jenas couldn't wait to get away from Souness at Newcastle. Said training there was a joke, to the extent that whenever he trained with England he was knackered.
Said Souness treated the players who crossed him like dirt, and they were all scared ****less of him.

                            Great player though.

Yep, I always thought he was a bit too quick and eager to sell and get rid of certain players, Beardsley being a case in point, as well as Houghton, Staunton et al. They were quality players, and when you consider the garbage he replaced them with, it's hardly a surprise it all ended in tears. We castigate Houllier for his abysmal record in the transfer market, and that is mainly for the hugely over-paying for players, but I don't think even Houllier bought as much dross as Souness - Piechnik, Stewart, Dicks, Kozma etc.

Agree with you about him as a pundit also, he does come across as a cock.

I'm amazed he was consistently offered management roles, although they seem to have dried up now after another failure, this time at Newcastle.

Yeah, but that's the whole reason why the Geordie's wanted Souness - to instill discipline in that squad. They ignored one thing though - Souness was pretty much an incompetent manager. Didn't he leave Blackburn in the bottom three when he left them to join the geordies?
