Im actually quite excited about the 7 sub rule, I think it could be quite a significant change to the league, theres been many times when we have had to leave decent players out of the match day squad.
It definitely has the potential to allow more young players to make the breakthrough at most teams, except maybe chavs and mancs, where they have large 1st team squads anyway. Don't think we'll see it so much at the start of the season but once we get in our stride I think Rafa will start naming a few more ressies.

They were simply more talented and had experience from elsewhere (in Momo's case much of which was gained under Rafa).

I think we might have to agree to disagree on the physical/mental development bit. I see Fabregas as a partly and exception to the general trend and partly as someone who was as developed then as he is now. At the same time as Fabregas was tried in midfield so were Song and Diaby and the development of both was arguably set back. Even though both are now developing into good players. Maybe the difference in quality is the key but I think attitude and being developed is part of it.

I can see your argument and I think loans etc are a key part of Rafa's plan as he acknowledges that player need to feel they are developing to kick on and be motivated. I tend to think that Owen, Fowler and Gerrard would all have gotten chances under Rafa one way or another as they were exceptional talents in a way that I have seen no obvious evidence that our young players are yet. Certainly all of the better prospects seem to have recently moved from foreign leagues and so could arguably be said to need more time simply to learn the language etc.

But we didn't buy him with points. I was refering to your original comment about "The man who bought him.."

I mean I don't doubt your point that a better striker might have created/scored a bit more and I also agree that I would prefer to see a reserve in that role, but that's higher risk and as a fourth choice striker, acquired for nothing, with lots of experience - he's not THAT bad.

I think you have to remember as well that whatever you, I or Nemeth thinks, Nemeth might not be ready for first team premiership football. Some players do get promoted too early and it can ruin their confidence for many years if they aren't ready.
        Really?

The point of the reserves is to develop the player and teach them the "liverpool way", like we used to do in the past where it wasn't unusual for us to sign someone and leave them in the reserves for a couple of years before they made the breakthrough.

Ablett has said that Nemeth has somethings he needs to work on, his left foot, his build up play and tactics. Maybe they are waiting for him to master those before throwing him into the cauldron.

If having the crow buys us the time to properly develop Nemeth's potential, then in the long run that is a good deal.
Sorry to go a bit off topic, I was just wondering why yall refer Voronin as the "Crow"?

It is a translation of his name - and a nickname used when a former poster revealed that he was going to be signing for us.

Mentality is equally important if not more important to Rafa than ability I think. If they didn't have the ability I wouldn't have thought they'd be at the club. If you blood a youngster who isn't ready and makes a cockup it can obviously really damage their confidence etc. Plus i'm sure he looks at how physically ready they are and how old they are e.g if Fabregas doesn't have injury problems in his mid to late 20s I will be amazed.

I guess it's a fine balance to get players cocky enough to push for a first team slot without rocking the boat.

Pacheco looked like he's got the attitude in the last game, I don't want Plessis to become a first teamer. Rather sell him on like we did with Guthrie are midfield is too good for him ATM and doesn't really look like it'll get any worse.

I've watched quite a bit of him in the reserves and Plessis passing has been awesome. Xabi-esque. He hasn't shown that in the 1st team games yet, but he does have that in his locker. Let's give him 1 more year in the reserves to develop his game before we pass judgement on him.
