I thought Degen was a bit shaky in defence also, but far far far too early to pass reasoned judgement

Yes it’s very early days but it can’t be ignored that the first impressions aren’t good.

He’s had injury problems though and in no way can he be judged on what little we’ve seen so far.

That said I do think some people must be crazy to be including him in our ‘strongest XI’s’ for next season. The way I see it is Arbeloa is first choice with Carra likely to play there when the need arises. Degen may be an option at Anfield against cannon-fodder.

I've started not judging players on pre season because last pre season Voronin looked a world beater.

What I think we've got to remember is during pre season these guys normally have a double training session in the day and then have a game at night. Degan has been out for a long time and was more than likely ****ed. I'll pass judgement on him 3 months into the season.

Agger played well when first joined us, Skrtel was poor at first i'll admit, but the point i am making is that Agger was impressive when he started for us, and still is today as well as Skrtel.

pointless judging players on pre season, we never seem to play well in these games so I am used to it,I remember we got beat something like 5-0 a couple years back.

When it comes to defensive signings I have complete trust in rafa and he is great at getting the best out of them.

From what I have seen of degen he seems to have all the right attributes, fast, good technique and has a good physique for the prem.His final ball has not been great so far and his positional sense a bit iffy but he has only played a couple of halfs and I am sure this will improve with fitnees and also him getting used to how we play.I think he will be a good signing for our squad.

Way to early to judge, I remember Skrtel's first game against Havant & Waterlooville, he was awful that day against a team that were probably one of the lowest down that we have played in modern times.

I remember the match thread that day. The Samaritans must have had a field day in Liverpool that evening. Skrtel was written off - if it had been up to the thread contributors he would have been run out of town that weekend.
