80% of you are out of order

Pennant is a good little player who in the right situation is a very useful asset.

He works hard and gets stuck in even though it isn’t in his makeup or stature to do so!

He only has good things to say about the club, is a good ambassador and accepts his position in the squad without complaint! He has been no trouble at all!

I also think he plays a lot better than people give him credit for and much criticism is unwarranted …… it is simply in Vogue to have a pop at him!

In fact if you watch him closely his general distribution is good and he is solid in possession!

if he is so good, then how come he isn't in the first team week in week out. A striker has been played out of position to take his position.....

he was playing at the start of the season ....and which striker is playing in his position???

If we adopted your philosophy we would have a squad of 11 players and would be f-ed for most of the season!

pennant isn't good enough. sometimes life is about doing the right thing not the nice thing. get rid!

Oh and if 80% of us are wrong then why is it that when we do sell him he'll only go to a midtable team?

Yeah, that's just what we want from our attackers - hard working who keep possession.

Let's forget about actually scoring and creating goals, eh?

I'm just not sure those things you've highlighted are enough.

When the best you can say in such a post is that he's "solid in possession" amd "gets stuck in", for an attacking winger we have a minor problem. And anyway, Dirk Kuyt does everything you've mentioned, only much better.

As a backup squad option I have no real problem with him, but he is not, nor ever will be, of the standard required of a regular first team player for a title challenging team.

Agreed ... unfortunately he is a bit of a numpty, has had a chequered past and is best mates with Ashely Cole

But I am with you, always said Lionel Richie is a very good player for us, he has been very very solid for us. With the exception of the shaky start he had with us he has grown from strength to strenght with many Man of the Match performances in my books. But some people wont give the guy credit or let him forget his past, if he had an inio on the end his name they might be more excited. As squad players go I am more than happy with him and I think he is much more than that... Nice one Mike speaker of sense as always

I can see your point here but in general I think he is better than people make out. The problem for me is that he is very one dimensional - if we played a 4-4-2 with two strikers most of the time he would be a valuable squad option - as it is he offers too little in terms of goal threat.

He has at times (I specifically remember a game against Bolton) allowed us to play with width to devastating effect. The problem is to use that game plan regularly we need two strikers who are decent in the air and someone to stretch the team on the left. Neither of which we have.

As such I would say he is of the standard and attitude to be a valuable squad player but as it is he is not suited to the way we are moving as a team and squad and so is not a good long term option.

on his day he's a cracking player (best player at CL final) but that day isn't often enough, saying that I'd rather he played wide instead of Kuyt

For me he is too inconsistent, also he only seems to play well when he's been out of the team for a while and has something to prove, if he's had a run of games the quality of his performances seems to deteriorate as the run goes on.

Decent squad player, but not good enough for starting 11 IMO
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Ya no good ambitious player should accept a subs role. He does not score enough, does not assist enough and has a tendency to hide when the going gets tough. He came on in the 2nd leg of this years CL semi with a big huge smile on his face. What the **** was there to be smiling about? We were losing. He had his chance and he blew it. Deadwood imo
Oh the man is a midfield maestro

On his day, he is very useful, not "cracking" tho, not by long stretch. Not really good enough for where we want to be & Kuyt does much better in the equivalent position. Not sure whe should sell him without replacing tho.

People saying he was the best player in the CL final tho are talking absoloute nonsense. Yes, he was eye-cathcing & direct, but his deivery was absolutely woeful that day & given the amount of chances he had to deliver, it showed his standard up to be far from the level we need.

Masher was our MOM that day btw, no coincidence his subbing meant Kaka was finally noticed & that led to the 2nd goal.
                            3rd place. Worst champions ever.
