Tim Vickery on the Olympics and our New Keeper

Quite an interesting read on why Lucas, Mascsherano etc are so desperate to play in the Olympics.

Then goes onto have a dig at Cavalieri saying that he's good not great (Guess we don't need great when we have Reina) but implies that we also paid over the odds for him

yes, I just read this a few minutes ago. I do read Vickeries articles every week and he does know his stuff about South American football. How much did we pay for Diego, about 3mill, well we have recouped that and more from Carsons sale (and Itandje?) he maybe a bargain, he maybe about right for the fee or a complete waste of money. Thing is he is a squad player and as such I dont think 3mill is the worst piece of business ever done.

Also interesting to see how we are letting Mascher go to the Olympics whereas other teams with their over 23 yr olds have told Brazil and Argentina to stuff it. We will be short in midfield with Lucas going as well, so this decison does seem a bit odd, esp as we dont have to relaes him, even allowing for the historical significance of the Torunament.

Calling Diego Cavalieri a "Brazilian Paul Robinson" doesn't exactly inspire confidence...
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Did you ever see Itandje play? I'd take anything in goal as an improvement over that useless cnut

I swear this place just revolves around people slagging off certain players at the moment.

I'm guessing he meant it in a kind of "knowing our luck they'll both break their legs" kind of way, rather than anything malicious.

It'll happen in the final too, when Mascherano goes diving into Lucas who tries to jump out of the way but a gust of wind blows his flowing locks into his eyes, he mistimes his jump, lands on Javier's left leg, snapping it thus. Mascherano in retaliation uses his one good leg to **** Lucas' right knee, taking it clean off.

Match is cancelled and the Olympics voided. Every one goes for a walk on the Great Wall. The End.

Im taking that opinion on Cavalieri with a big pinch of salt. I remember that gyuy raving about how good Palletta would be... nuff said really.

Also, there arent many "good" keepers that would be happy to sit on the bench.
