does anyone think that rafa will give 2 ****s what hanson thinks and then change his plans?

he is entitled, as are we all to his opinions but perrrlease alan just support rafa as he does know what hes doing.

to be honest mate, i feel that both players on top form, then Barry wouldnt be fit to tie Xabi's laces.... its just that Xabi has had bad luck wth form and injury recently... who is to say that Barry will be as good for LFC as he was for Villa - if you applied that to every player, then Nigel Clough would have been handy for us.....

i can actually seeing rafa forgive xabi and give him another season....

and I completely disagree because gerrard started his first team career as a defensive midfield player or holding player. in istanbul against ac milan when they brought on serginho for the last part of the game, benitez moved gerrard to right back to mark him and stop his crosses.

This boy can do everything and this fact should not be trivialised.

Because of our shortcomings in attack he pushes on because if he doesnt score or create we general dont and havent until torres came onboard.

If we had more power in attack, im sure we would see a more disciplined gerrard playing as one of the two midfielders.

let's be totally honest. If we didn't have stevie, then we'd have 4 european cups and maybe a few extra appearances in the uefa cup semi's....the man is a legend and in my opinion, the best ever LFC player. Had gerrard been playing alongside souness and with the king and rushie up front, with barnes on the left wing and with hansen and lawrenson in defence, then i still do think that he'd be the main man.... the guy is a legend and in my opinion, i don't know of a team in the history of the game that would be more ****ed over the last few years than we would be if we didn't have stevie.....

in my opinion, stevie's biggest problem is that he is:

        1. our best centre midfielder
        2. our best right winger
        3. our best left winger
        4. our best full back
        5. our best second striker

the reason gerrard was played as a second striker last season was because kuyt had a **** spell, then crouch was throwing his toys out of the pram, and mascher was so immense in the middle. I can actually see gerrard move back out to a wide position next season at times with Keane playing behind torres.....in other games keane will play out wide....

Problem though, is that I don't think it is down to form and injury, I just think the PL is too fast for Xabi.

Anyway I hope you are right, Xabi on top of his game is peerless, I can see why Rafa is doing what he is doing though.

I can't see why Rafa wants another defensive minded midfielder when we're crying out for more creativity. Where are the assists going to come from if Gerrard misses a large part of the season? It won't be Barry. He ain't anywhere near Gerrard in terms of class

I bet we could Arshavin for £20m. I would rather not have bought Ngog, not buy Barry, sell Voronin, promote Nemeth and Pacheco and buy Arshavin

But then again I'm not in favour of having two defensive midfielders in the Premiership. When our defensive midfielder is the best in the world, I don't think we need two defensive midfielders

Gerrard off Torres doesn't work against the other top 3 and he is more effective against them running against deep. If he wants to sell Xabi then buy a different type of midfielder....not Gareth Barry

i dont believe that you have to play with wingers its about getting balance from the fullback bombing forward and tracking back ,Take the mighty Brazil they never play with wingers as they get their width from their fullbacks ,spain addopted the same approach and worked for them in the euro's ,but the key is having excellent players in the center who can create the space for the fullbacks to overlap

Hansen's idea of width is a extra large Morrison's trolley

totally agree with you ,thats why rafa tried to get alves a couple of years ago when no one knew about him ,but i dont think we have the money to buy the fullbacks that rafa ideally want, look at what chelski paid for bosingwa and what Barca paid for alves i think our first choice fullbacks will be dossena and abeloa ,i dont think degen will feature alot he will be a squad player

So it appears that Rafa is trying to get Keane, (which Jockey says is wrong} but in the next breath, we rely too much on Torres and Gerrard, whereas United's front line are brill!

figuring out what rafa thinks is near impossible. there is no doubt he prefers two sitting midfielders in the centre and that in the past we havent had a full back who was a genuine threat from either flank.

all of a sudden we have speedy golzales and the road runner as our full backs and we are getting rid of one of our sitting midfielders (alonso) for a more progressive central midfielder in barry.

its all attack, attack, attack, but maybe its too offensive, because barry cant defend for **** and neither can degen from the looks of things.

tough one to call but id rather have two attacking fullbacks and two sitting midfielders than two defensive fullbacks and one semi attacking midfielder.

Central Midfield pairing of alonso and masher for me.
